Well I searched this forum and a few others for 2 days to problems for a specific issue with the factory stereo.

2013 Ram 1500 4x4 Quad Cab 5.7 VF4 Stereo

On cold start up everything booted up fine, no issues. Drive down the road 10 miles shut truck off go to gas up get back in, nothing notta zilch. OK now I have no idea what any of my heat settings are at. It tries to boot up shows the RAM logo shuts down and continues to do that for hours or minutes depending on the drive.

Tried all the reboot procedures on here. Hot and cold buttons simoultanousely, pulled radio fuse by the firewall out back in, disconnect battery, voice recog and phone buttons, rub top of head and belly at same time ect ect ect. Nothing natta. no answers.

Well here is the answer for this issue. You need a new unit, PERIOD. Heres how i found out because I never give up. I put the whole unit in the freezer and put it back in the truck and BINGO, perfect no issues. Even shut vehicle off several times and started back up. Then when it gets to a certain temperature its done, toast, BUT as long as you dont shut it off it will continue to work even if it gets to temperature but the second you shut it off at temperature approx 50 degrees, it is done.

I seen one thread on here where a guy mounted 2 fans behind the unit, SMART!!! Im not spending 1200 on a new unit thats BS.

Has anyone on here bought the units from ebay and had any compatibility issues?? 2013-2017 is a pretty good span and I see some have more ports than others. Mine has just 2 and some have 3-4. I dont want something I have to go the dealer with after all the work I have done. Alot say they coma with the unlock code. These are out of Rams, 300's and Jeeps. 3-700 bucks.

Ok I hope this helps some folks with similar issues down the road.

Did you mean to say RA4 radio? If so you will need to get one out of a Ram or Jeep Cherokee. The radios out of other vehicles will not work in your truck. If you want the RA4 factory Nav radio make sure it says VP4NA on the back of the radio. The NA stands for (North America). The unlock code is easy to get online or some dealers will give it to you without any issues. If the radio you buy has more ports than your old radio it's fine. If your truck is a 16 or newer make sure you get a 16 or newer radio. I have seen some guys have issues getting the trailer hitch camera icon which became an option in 2016 to show up when they installed older units in there trucks, also if you are considering a cargo cam anytime in the future you are going to want a 16 or 17 radio.

Yes RA4, Thanks for all the input that helps tremendously. I will take all that into consideration when I decide to purchase a unit or just encase mine in dry ice LOL Too bad you couldnt just replace the motherboard then you know what you have. Anyway I might do a little more research on that. Thanks again. this is my first Dodge Ram so i havent been real thrilled with all the nickel and dime electronic stuff but the engines are solid.

There's an RA4 for sale in our classifieds right now...

It may be a good time to upgrade from an RA4 to a UAS which has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Thanks for the cooling complement!177a80d5d104cc6d0c660e6796116812.jpg

LOL, Nice job on that. Yep no different than a laptop or any other electronic device. Heat destroys them. 2020 and still making stuff that has no creativity behind it. This is exactly why we need to start building our own stuff and stop farming it out to china. Cheap throwaway crap. Remember Sylvania and Zenith? Yes, we built stuff you could fix and last for sometimes decades.
