Now that we are back to using regular non-ethanol gas my truck is averaging a full 1 MPG more than with the Ethanol crap.

In my former Ford truck I ran 16.6 MPG year round but with the Ram there is a serious difference.

Has anyone else noticed this significant a change?

"winter" gas has always killed MPG also extra warming up in the winter sucks gas quick too.

Nothing new

there's no or very little change in the ethanol content between seasons. the reason for the different blends is simply to allow the gas to evaporate at lower temperatures during winter

Honestly, that depends on where you are. Different states have different rules down here below the border.

Last I checked I believe summer blend comes in by May 1 (NY). I'll go from 12 mpg to about 14 mpg after the second full tank of summer blend gas.

Watch out, non ethanol gas has MTBE, an octane booster that's known to leave deposits and cause fuel system clogs.

Paid $2.19 for Non ethanol gasoline today. ( they were out of 10% so he had it for same price) I could see my mileage go up on the 50 mile ride in.

In my humble opinion ethanol is one of the biggest scams ever laid on the American people by our government.

I agree with the above, not only is it a con, it's a subsidy we pay for. Ugh.

Anyhow, I've been running an experiment for 4 tanks now, the Wawa buy our house sells Ethanol free 89 Octane and it's the same price (for now) as mid-grade is anyways. So I've been filling it up.

I'm averaging 2MPG more with hard driving. We even managed to get close to 18MPG driving like a grandma and hyper miling it. But that's hard to do continuously.

I'd like to do some ethanol free towing here soon. But going to need to plan a route in advance.

This hasn't been true since the U.S. Congress passed the Energy Policy Act of 2005 phasing out the use of MTBE in the gas at public gas pumps.

Damn internet...so much false info on it.

I'm probably one of the few that WANTS more ethanol in my gas. If E85 was offered in Canada I would be running it in my hemi in a heartbeat but I'm also not your average guy who cares about MPGs; I want the detonation resistance and cooler burn temps of ethanol vs. gasoline.

That's not what that law said, at all. It was a planned scaledown of MTBE use.

Most noteably, that act caused gasoline manufactures to use ETHANOL as a replacement for MTBE. That's why finding 100% gas is so hard now, no one wants to use MTBE. There are now other alternatives to MTBE and Ethanol, but few as cheap.

You'll notice in this link that MTBE has NOT been banned, as you claim. Rather, the oxygenate requirement was lifted, meaning MTBE was no longer needed in the same quantities as it used to. With the rise in the use of ethanol, MBE is now used far less than it used to be, but it is still used in some 100% gas mixtures.

Place close to my house sells 90 octane non-ethenol but it's almost a $1 more a gallon.

Overview | Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE) | US EPA

You're correct on a couple things here.....my use of "banned" on the federal level was incorrect and yes the phasing out of MTBE is ONE reason ethanol is used in gasoline today. I will not get in a ******* contest over something I don't really care about. It was your fear mongering in your original post that aggravated me.

You should know that your original post is STILL incorrect though, depending on which State you live in.

Methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) was legally used as a gasoline blending component in New York State from 1979 (USEPA, 1998) until its statewide ban on January 1, 2004 (USEPA, 2004) (NYSDAM, 2004).

USEPA MTBE Pilot Project Report - NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation

The States listed below have completely banned MTBE and there are 14 other States that only allow trace amounts.

1. Colorado
2. California
3. Michigan
4. Connecticut
5. New York
6. Minnesota

We can do this all day, but like I said above, I won't. I'm done with this thread. Just please be careful with your fear mongering. A lot of people will buy into it. :favorites13:

Fear mongering? No.

I merely said MTBE can be found in 100% gasoline. That statement is true, minus a few states, all of which are no where near me.

Goodby!

Im hoping the factory injectors on the hemi can handle the extra fuel needed to run E85 without maxing them out... If so, Hemifever will be making a new race tune for me here soon. E85~108 oct. on PI engines alone. ~160 Oct. on DI engines. :)

They can't. You'd need to swap to the SRT4 injectors to feed the additional 30% fuel requirement and you'd be close to the fuel pump's maximum capacity as well and a drop-in pump is recommended.

I believe our trucks use the same injectors as the Mustang GT500. If so, you could pick up a set of those really, really cheap

I would go to E85 as well if I could get around me fairly easy
