Getting down to the nitty gritty on my purchase. Last decision is etorque or not.

Any thoughts or opinions would be great.

I think you are going to get a lot of:

It's just something else to break
The savings vs the initial cost don't add up
It only helps with take off

My personal opinion is I wouldn't mind finding a truck with etorque but I won't be to upset if I don't get it. I do a fair bit of stop and go driving so I would see some benefit from the start stop system.

So really I think it comes down to do you want it for that feeling of fuel savings or not?

I've heard the etorque trucks don't have tether points for car seats behind the passenger side rear seat. This may not be a big deal to you, but if you have or might have need for more than one car seat, this could be a deal breaker on the etorque trucks. I guess the battery pack is behind that seat so no tether.

You're also going to lose about 90lbs in payload and towing due to the heavier system if that matters to you.

I have the e torque and it has worked fine. If you are going to be in a lot of stop and go traffic it would be a good thing. However, with e torque if you are running the ac, like hot weather in Texas, it will not shut the engine off a lot of times because the engine is keeping the cabin cool or trying to cool it down.

I was not interested in it. I dont like the start/stop, one more piece of techie stuff to go wrong, reduces the cargo capacity of the truck which is already kinda puney ( mine is only 1324# without it ), and like yakalong said in Texas heat it probably would have some kind of negative effect on a/c cooling.

Today's pickups are critical profit for manufacturers' profits but they also hurt the fleet average fuel economy numbers for the CAFE regs. As a result the manufacturers produce diesel engines and quasi hybrid engines like the etorque engines and let the customer foot the bill with higher purchase price and higher maintenance and repair costs.

One place where the V-6 engines fall down is with towing heavy loads up long grades where the etorque runs out of juice and the Ford turbo overheats. Overall these engines are less reliable and more likely to cause problems and trip interruptions for their owners.
