the EVAP purge valve on my 3.6 pentistar is making a slight ticking sound when at idle. It's located on the right side of the engine, on top, next to the intake manifold. i've got a CEL and a P0456 code......question is, is the PURGE VALVE supposed to be making any slight ticking sound when at idle..??

When the EVAP system is commanded by the PCM to "Purge" the system the solenoid makes a clicking/ticking sound when activated.

If tht purge solenoid is running constantly without shutting off then something is wrong.

A couple Google searches indicate that the purge solenoid on the Pentastar engine does activate significantly more frequently than on many other engines. It seems to be a common complaint and isn't very noticeable unless the solenoid is bad, or it's bracket is damaged.

I've seen a few posts on a Jeep forum about the bracket being made to isolate the solenoid and reduce noise. If the bracket gets bent or damaged, the solenoid can transmit noise and be annoying.
