A few years ago I opened my driver's door and the wind ripped it out of my hand and blew the door open pretty violently. Ever since then there has been a lot of wind noise around the top of the door. I tried tightening the hinge bolts but I think it might have bent the door frame. Anything else I could try short of a wood block and sledgehammer to get that door to fit tighter?

Swing by a decent auto body shop. Most vehicles are assembled with adjustment keys that fit between the door mounting tabs and the mounting point on the cab. You can have it "shimmed" up right to tighten the tolerances between the door and frame.

If it is the upper window frame that is bent, then they will have to do something different to reshape it to form of the cab.

Also make sure your door rubber seal is properly inserted in it's groove all the way around the door, is not torn or folding over on itself in an odd way.

That sounds good. I took it to the dealer after it happened but I think all the did was try and tighten the hinges like I did. I think the seal is still good but I'll check. Thanks.

If it is out of alignment, or especially if the window frame is bent, tightening the bolts will do nothing for you.

They need to "massage" the frame or tinker with the shim keys where it bolts to the cab.

Hope it works out for you.

I also have the dreaded wind noise when at speed, but I know what caused my problem. Never lock your keys in the truck, and then call the police. What they use can misshape the door frame and it is a massive pain to get it fixed. Thank god my insurance company came to the rescue and replaced my door after some idiot punched a hole in it at WalMart.

Whatever metal piece got bent, has to be bent back. If the hinge actually bent, then it might be easier to replace the hinge.

Alright, I think I'll take the door off and give the hinge a closer look. From the outside it looks like the door lines up perfectly, maybe with the door off I can finesse back into adjustment.:superhack:

Thanks guys.
