Help!
I am interested in swapping my stock manifolds for headers.
I dont plan on swapping the whole exhaust system because its in great condition still. When the time comes i will swap it out.

My question is What type of headers will benefit my truck the most?
long tube or short tube? I mostly do in city driving. low end torque is best.
if long, will my stock cat setup work ?
I plan on getting a tuner after the exhaust. which one will work best with just an intake/exhaust setup ?

thanks

Superchips and longtubes . You will have to move the exhaust a little to fit the headers and the stock cats are perfectly fine... :)

im in the process of getting the Long tube headers in as soon as i get everything i need. im still kind of learning as i go so if anyone sees something wrong please correct me.

first off. if your state does inspection of your truck, long tubes are out.
long tubes will add more power gains then short tubes
most long tubes will not fit the stock cats. BUT you can cut your cats so you have the proper size you need.
i recommend saving and getting all the parts you need. will probably have to get new piping from before the stock Ypipe to the headers.

as for a tuner, for just those 3 mods, get a SC but if you plan on modding your engine more go with the Predator

thanks ! does the SC offer different tunes for different mods done to the vehicle ( without having to buy custom )
or is it just a generic performance or mileage tune ?

Most people run the 91 Octane tune. Just a generic tune, but no need for anything custom unless you plan on getting deeper into engine mods.

oh i didnt think about emissions. in BC canada we have "Aircare" as far as i know the headers are not an issue as long as cats are in place and tailpipe emissions are at the appropriate level. my mustang has longtubes and havent had any issues with them for testing. its probobly worth swapping the Y pipe as well, that factory one is just ugly.
maybe the predator will be a good choice? does the DSP support trans tuning like the SC does?

Yes, the DSP is the one I have. The SC can't be custom tuned, but if you do decide to custom tune then a DSP can do that.

If you mean the shift points, then yes. It does. Sorry. Haha. Meant that first yes to answer the question.

Seems like its all been covered. Pacesetters are good and cheaper than the others, they are all within a few hp/tq from one another. Get them ceramic coated, the painted ones wont last and will rust. Pacesetter also offers a bolt on Y pipe kit specifically for their long tubes for around $100-150. It's an easy bolt-on kit that you can do in your driveway (I would reccoment welding the joints (minus the header collectors) though as mine leaked like crazy).

If you keep your cats you can cut them to a 3" opening weld them in place (I have a ton of pictures of my setup I can post later when I get home or there are a few circling around the site). The sniffer test may not pass though as far as emissions go, Mine never through any codes with the stock cats and O2's in place but the way the emissions work here is it is all plugged into the OBDII port to check the system, nothing ever went on my tailpipe. Be interesting to see if the setup would still pass based on that or not.

Tuner, either tuner will work wonders for your truck. The DSP will do the normal canned tunes for both PCM and TCM, you have a few engine and trans adjustments you can play with like shift points and what not, or you can get it custom tuned and have the tuner write a PCM and TCM custom tune as long as they know what they are doing.

Good luck with the modding!

Also put in a 180* Tstat while your at it to richen up the mix, the headers will lean it out some.
