I took off the stock muffler and made it straight piped. Left the dual resonators or small mufflers near the tailpipe (its dual exhaust) on. I noticed i lost hp or tq or both. Want to gain pwr back but not sure how to go about it. Magnaflow has a straite pipe design and flowmaster uses baffles. Would going back to stock be better than those 2?

Stock muffler creates bback pressure which promotes better low rpm tq and hp. But it becomes a restriction as rpms beyond a point when the backpressure causes too much of a flow problem. When u removed the muffler you "uncorked" the restrictive stock muffler and increased the flow of the exhaust. This is why u lost your lower rpm grunt.

Only way to get it back is to go back to OEM and increase the backpressure. Or you could insert some exhaust inserts to increase backpressure and you.could possibly keep most of the sound you gained.

High flow mufflers will be the same as your muffler delete (power wise). I say throw a tune at it and an intake and enjoy the exhaust and a good bit more power.

Sounds good to me. What do the resonators do at the end of the exhaust? I have 2 since its a dual from factory

Removes in-cab resonance. Will help reduce the amount of drone on the highway. If you take them off while straight piped, you could very well go crazy as drone is already pretty apparent with no muffler.

I get a good bit of drone on my stock dual exhaust with a 18" max flow SS muffler (same as magna flow). Its only between 1600-1900rpms. BUt thats with the stock resonators etc. Im actually thinking of swapping to a 23" muffler cat back with no resonators, as I think the 18" muffler is pretty good but could be slightly quieter bc of the drone, and the cutback comes with 4" SS tips. But from 2K on up and at cold idle it sounds AMAZING!!

They have resonator tubes that bolt on before the muffler on the rams to cancel out the resonance/drone but pretty expensive if I remember right ($200ish).

I have a AEM high flow filter in my stock intake currently but bought a used vararam from a member here and going to be putting it on shortly after I personalize it alittle lol.

nope, sounds like an animal. My only real gripe is the drone/resonance between 1600-2k. It doesn't do it if I mash the pedal… only when cruising on the highway and around town. I might be selling it if your interested lol.

heres a sound clip.

On the shift? Prob a dead spot in the flow on the shift and since u don't have a muffler to absorb some of the noise etc.
