Exhaust set ups (update)

Looking for some thoughts and opinions on exhaust layouts.. see attached photos, but in summary I'm looking to redo my broken system with using a super 10 muffler and some QTP electric cutouts for track use and fun.

As I don't think either of these options will net or decrease HP but I do think each set up will have a difference in sound over stock and what I currently have now with a single 3" in dual out super 10 to 4" MRBP tips.
excuse the rough 1 minute drawings...

I'd go with the x pipe setup

What is your end goal with the exhaust? If you have bigger plans to add longtubes in the future, then I would save your money for now and just throw some new stock tailpipes on there with your muffler of choice. Otherwise, you are going to spend a bunch of money for a custom exhaust now that will need to be cut up and redone as soon as you add the longtubes.

If you are gonna do it do it right first start with longtube headers. Then custom build through x pipe and out.

Yeah, this is on my mind but I'm going to try to do it to where I can swap them in and out and have the long tubes work with both systems. Long tubes are tricky for me to get past smog and I have to make sure my smog guy is onboard with the swap. But I also don't want to box myself into a corner . So every 2 years it may be a exhaust swap to smog... gotta love commyfornia.

I do have big plans but that's not till I move the fuel tank to the rear, that's after the shop being built this spring summer so probably a year away. I know it's more $$ but that's part of living in this crappy state

I feel your pain. I really wanted some long tube headers but just cant justify the swap every 2 years right now.

Its a hassle and annoying, i have some friends moving to a different county and moving their farm up there so i may be able to register the truck through that county and not have smog, just have to look into the logistics of living address and temp address vs registration.... eitherway i want to be able to take it in and out if needed, looking to steal a little from the way we build diesel exhausts and use band clamps.
I think i can set it up that from xpipe back it stays and just change long tubes and y pipes.... that way the modified long tube ypipe is all there is for extra cost

Your first picture is confusing. Is the y-pipe backwards? I've heard that x-pipes make our trucks sound a bit raspy. If you want pure aggressive volume then I would go with the Carven mufflers like you were talking about.

Went and talked to another shop today that does custom fab and exhaust.... there shop is kinda messy but their work looks decent to very good. so I will give him a try...

Talked to him on how to integrate future long tube and cat'ed ypipe later and just want to tie into the existing y pipe drop in a xpipe with v-band flanged connection to front and back and then piped to separate super 10 mufflers with vband flange at rear before it goes over the axle for easy future mods.. all in all with complete new set up he said $500.. This includes tips but I will supply my own black MRBP tips from Moes.

All in all I didn't think this was very bad. so we will see how he does, also talked to him about future work and he has solid works and a laser table he uses so its really easy to integrate my design or stuff for him to fab cheap....

First he gets the exhaust, if he does a good job on it then he will get the other work i need done before I have my shop tooled up a ready to fab
