My first oil change was done by the dealer free of charge. I just did the second oil change myself & the oil filter that I removed said "Factory Installed" on the bottom. My question: do oil filters that Dealers use say that on the bottom or did the dealer not change the filter? What do ya think?

^Not entirely correct. Some dealer stock does come from factory and does indeed have that writing on it. It's usually our service stock if say the standard stock has ran dry and we needed it for the service department. They're packed like water bottles from Costco, plastic wrapped cardboard bottomed plate box. I've worked in the industry fr some time, even seen it happen with Toyota and Subaru.

That said a good thing to do is paint mark your factory-fresh stuff so you know it's been changed out, or simply do it yourself if capable. Just save your receipts for the parts in case you need to reference them.

I'd bet you got what you paid for…………..Unless you can go to the service manager and have him show you more filters in his stock that say that on them.

This will kind of go with O.R.T's post. If you're unsure, the factory installed filter will be on extremely tight. But I think they screwed ya buddy.

I've been a dealership technician for nearly 7 years.. I don't know of a single technician out of all the ones I have met who would purposely not change an oil filter to screw a customer (and trust me, there are some shady techs out there). What is being benefitted?? A filter that cost the company a dollar? And along with ORT's post.. I have also seen this in filter stock. I honestly wouldn't worry about it man. If it really bothers you than you can call them about it.. But they are only going to assure you that it has been changed.

Really? I worked in a flat rate dealership and there were a few guys who would make a point to screw either the company or the customer if they didn't get their way. Which included parts requests that never actually made it to the vehicle. Not saying that's what happened here, but that's exactly why I quit being a mechanic and joined the army.

Also, and what's more likely, is if you went through the quick lube it would not have been a licenced tech that did your oil change. It would have been a highschool kid who could have possibly made a mistake. I've seen an Intrepid head a couple km's down the road only to have the engine seize up because the lads forgot to put the drain plug back in before they filled it up with oil.

Accidents happen.

Accidents do happen and trust me they happen at dealers too.. I don't how the dealers are where y'all live haha. The two dealerships I've worked at nobody would go through the trouble of refusing to change a freakin oil filter haha. Besides that.. If a problem occurs.. Guess who gets to fix it.. For free.. The technician that messed it up. I don't know about you guys but I don't like replacing motors for free.
