I have never plowed snow before but might in the near future when I get my truck. What I am wondering is it really worth it to get the factory aux buttons? It is only another $2 per month but if it is just as easy to use aftermarket it would shave off a little $$$

I think it is best to get all the options u want. But that's my opinion.

Like already mentioned, get the options you want or will need. Now with that said, how much is the option for the aux buttons? I'm assuming its an in dash panel of some sort? If you're financing the truck and this option will only raise the monthly payment by $2 then it may be worth paying for that option up front instead of financing the few hundred dollars over the course of the loan. That is of course if you can. Personally I think it would better to not finance a few hundred dollars if you don't have to

Save yourself the trouble and get the Snow Plow Prep package with the AUX upfitter switches. It will save you a ton of time and give you increased functionality with the switches.

Here is a couple of videos from RAM describing the switches and their use.

I am planning on getting the Outdoorsman so most everything in the Snow Plow Packages I am already getting in with the Outdoorsman Package. Gonna check out these youtube videos though. Thanks

Cool. However you play around with the options and packages, make sure you get the 220 Amp Alternator out of it.

The "Snow Chief" package is sorta a rip off but the "heavy duty snow prep" for $85 will get you the 220 amp alternator and you can add the aux switch package for way cheaper. That is how my truck is configured.

Yes ya really gotta watch out or you can end up paying for an option two or three times. I've looked at these options/packages backwards & forwards. I think I am just about ready to order. I am hoping the incentives for Dec. or Jan. are better than the last couple months but not gonna hold my breath.

$795.00 for the Snow Chief Pkg is nothing when you consider that you can get rebates/discounts on these trucks right now of over $9k+ off the list price...Don't forget that pkg also includes 4 new more expensive tires LT275/70/18...limited slip axle...2 alternators...Roof clearance lights...skid plates...auxiliary system...

Btw...I would not suggest putting a plow on any Ram not equipped with this pkg. It was the first thing the dealer looked at when they were diagnosing what caused the failure on my truck...

But with the Outdoorsman Package you already get limited slip & skid plates. All the other options except for the tires you can order individually at a cheaper price.
As Hootbro mentioned you can get the HD Snow Prep for $85-$2/mo. I would go all out with it if I were going to do it for a living but I will only be plowing for myself & my Plant's lot. Besides I am trying to keep the payment less than my house! :)

So Chrysler won't warranty an HD 2500 truck because it used a plow without a factory installed pkg?

I cant speak for Chrysler...all I can do is explain what the service mgr did and said to me when they initially looked at my truck and the blown hose. He was to stupid apparently to look at the original "in service date" (10-24-15)... snowplow and salt spreader install date was 11-11&12-2015...In todays world and the circumstances that FCA finds themselves in , I would not put ANYTHING past this corp and their dealer network. I could even see this dealership trying to throw the upfitter who did the installs under the buss to rid them selves of any liability. Unfortunately for them , the upfitter has been in biz since 1937, and does 100+ snowplow installs annually...And for good measure...the dealer my truck is sitting at uses the same company for all their plow installs/sales.......

Just get the aux switches... they are great for general use as well...

I use mine for red/blue led lights for our fire department response. could also use them for LED light bars ect....

I watched the videos and searched, with no luck... Are these switches rated for any decent amps or do we still need to run everything thru a relay ? A lot of new LED lights don't draw much... just wondering what the setup is rated for ?

AUX 1 & 2 are on a 40A rated circuit.

AUX 3, 4 & 5 are on a 25A rated circuit.

Like stated, yeah they are out of the gate.

even better than that is that you can replace the fuses to however you would like them to be.

you can also program them to have power while ignition is off or wait till its on. You can also set them to turn off or come back on with the ignition cycled...

I would clarify that statement to never install a higher amp fuse above a circuits rating. Can go down, but never go higher.

I have a '15 2500 Outdoorsman that was ordered with the AUX switches. I knew I was going to be adding lights / whatever, to the truck later and I wanted clean switches to run them instead of putting in ugly dash switches. They are programmable from the EVIC (instrument cluster). I was playing with mine and you can set them up different ways for different types of switches. I believe the harness for the switches is already there on all HD trucks. If I'm wrong please correct me. Just need the switch panel. One thing I will mention is that you don't have switches for seats, or whatever other switches the AUX Swiches are replacing. They get replaced with the AUX switches and sole control of the seats and others is in the Media system. NAV! I've never had an issue.

We love the Outdoorsman and if you have any ?s just let me know. We custom ordered ours and absolutely love it. For our taste it was way better than getting a 2500 BIG and HORNIE off the lot. Plus we have way more options, and NO CHROME other than the rims.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

Not sure on the 15-16's, but on a 14, switches must be factory installed. I tried 3 different dealers in hopes one knew something the others didn't. Even called Ram. Can't be added afterwards.

I think you can but they have to go in & mess with the computer which ends up costing way more money than if you just order them on the truck from the factory. Same way with the brake controller I am told.
On my Durango I added a Mopar Hitch & wiring harness. Did the install my self but had to have the steelership tell the computer that it was there. Cost like $130 for less than 5 min. work!
Not like back in the good ol' days.
