Finished the garage yesterday and got my mother in law moved in today so we can use her old room as the new babies room until around April when we'll be looking for a bigger house.

Added 4 extra plugs along the walls, upgraded the lights to some nicer room-type. Re-installed and rigged my garage door... completely. Blew insulation in the attic over the garage as there was none previously, and ripped down the walls and insulated every inch. Then put up new sheetrock, floor and ceiling trim and sanded and painted it all. Bought some cheapo $.51 per foot carpet at lowes and put it down. This way it's comfortable and can be used as a room, or just push open the garage door button and it's still a garage!

I'm still planning on adding an electric wall heater just to ensure it stays warm, so before I put up the sheet rock, I added a junction box. Prolly wont do that for a month or two though.

I was going to add to the air ducts and put a duct into this room, but if a vehicle is running and pulls into the garage, I dont want fumes possible entereing the house through the ducts. It's stays almost exactly the same temperature as the house, we just leave the door to the house open a couple hours each day.

Basically, yessir! We just needed an extra temporary bedroom for a couple months when the new baby arrives, until we get the new house. I was going to make it into a permanent bedroom and frame in where the garage door was... but the building inspector said I'd have to raise the foundation level 4 inches. Not possible for me. So I just kept it a garage, but made it look like a room. Now the renters can either remove the carpet and it'll be a garage, or leave the carpet and it's an extra room.

The carpet it just laid on the floor btw. There's no pad under it, or anything tacking it down. Just stays in place between the wall trim boards. My mother in law actually loves it!

I've always wished my bedroom had a garage door lol

Look nice!

Haha seriously! We picked most of mother in laws stuff from the storage unit today and backed right up the the garage door/her bedroom wall lolz, and went right inside. easy move!

Then I picked up the babies dresser from babies r us... and it was a monster. Hard to get through the front door, so we just opened the garage door and went right inside lol.

The insulation they sell for the garage doors is badass! Before you could stand 6 inches away from the door and feel the heat or cold depending on the outside weather. Not you cant feel it at all, even if you put your hand on the inside of the door/insulation. Also, added some new weather stripping around the outsides and sealed the corners really well with some caulk.

Its about $75 at Home Depot. Its an awesome kit, and it works incredibly! No cheap stuff here. I'll post a link to what I bought in a sec.

Its called: Owens Corning Garage Door Insulation Kit.
