Sync garage door opener.

I'm trying to sync the garage door opener on my 2017 Ram 1500. When I press the button with the garage door opener next to it, there's no lights that come on. It doesn't matter if I hold the button or just press the button, lights never come on. I checked the fuses that were listed in the owner's manual and it says fuse for the homelink is also the same as for the compass and the compass works fine , so I don't think it's a blown fuse. I just bought the truck last week from a dealership , so no history on the vehicle. Does anybody have any suggestions. Thank you.

Did you try clearing any previously stored codes by pressing the two outer buttons and holding them for about 20 seconds?

I had a similar issue and my garage door installer had me do the opposite of whatever the manual said. So if it says do it at the opener, instead use a programmed remote.

I used a programmed remote. It's an old school type remote, that works on my 2017 Grand Caravan.

None of the three buttons work/light up when pressed or held.

Is there a message on the instrument cluster that says "transmitting"?

Press and hold the left and right buttons at the same time, hold for about 20 seconds. The lights should flash and you should see a message on the instrument cluster.

If that doesn't do anything, you may have a problem with the buttons or wiring.

I just tried again, and no msg or lights. The overhead panel is loose, so i will check out the wiring. Thanks.

Do the truck's button lights come on when you turn your headlights on? If so they have power. Had same scenario where nothing was happening.

Turns out that I wasn't following the learn procedure correctly. Do check your instructions for programming your opener. My Overhead Door Legacy unit required the following:

press & release learn button on opener ( opener light blinks)
press & release remote button (opener light goes solid)
press & release remote button again (light goes out)

Remote should then work on mext press.

I dont like to even use those door openers in the Truck for the Fact that you do not have to have the key or truck started to open your garage. So if anyone opens your truck lets say by breaking a window, and just presses the button now they are into your home.

Thanks for responding Trucker. I agree. I don’t use the Homelink for my house. I use it on my son’s garage. I don’t have keys to their house’s, so if I need to drop something at their house, I leave it in their garage. And when I leave their house, I can close the door behind me.

Yes. That is another item on my 'To do' list, for post warranty mods.

Configure a relay bypass tied to the ignition state with a hidden bypass switch. I have 3 doors set in the HomeLink.

Yes, it does work with the truck off and sitting. I found this out when I had a new Garage Door installed, and the installer programmed it in my truck when I was not home, for my wife, but after finding this out, I deleted it from the opener, and my truck would no longer open the door from the buttons in the truck. I can open the door from my cell phone anyway.

Mine must be broken then, it doesn't work if the truck is off. Did you try it after the truck has gone to sleep? The home link might stay active for a half hour or so after the truck is turned off.

No it’s not if you think about it.

Suppose someone Actually Uses their garage to Park their truck inside.

Would you want to Start the truck with the garage doors closed?

Also, why would someone break into your truck to break into your garage …when the garage is so much easier to break into? And…. wouldn’t your truck burglar-alarm warn you if the truck was broken-into..??

Whatever….. But I live waay out in the country….in the middle of a ranch….a half-mile inside a security-gate….where we leave the house unlocked and the keys in everything anyway. (How quickly can you move cars and trucks if the house catches fire?)
Why would we want to have to repair broken windows and doors in-addition to replacing all the stolen stuff?

We’ve never had the problems city-dwellers have in that regard.

There is usually a manual door opener installed by the person door that enters the garage. Wouldn't someone open the garage door before getting in the vehicle?
There's nothing in a vehicle that stops it from starting while inside of a building/garage so why would manufacturers look at the home link from anything other than security and convenience.
