That was the purpose of my post...how some filters seem to work for some, and not others. Pretty wild . Thanks for the reply and insight from everybody!

Lots of good info , testimonials and real life experiences here that further confirm that a 30wt oil is absolutely fine and IMO Better for our 5.7L MDS and non MDS Rams !

The exploded view of the internal parts and assembly of Royal Purple 10-48 & Fram Ultra XG 10060 oil filters look identical
And both have non cellulose filter media.

Since the orientation of the hemi spin on filter is vertical , do not find a purpose for the anti drain flapper seal on the inlet.

If the spin on filter was horizontal the flapper seal would prevent oil from draining from the canister.

What most don't realize is. The fram ultra is not made by allied signal or Honeywell or whoever owns them now like the rest of the orange cans are. The Fram ultra is made in the same building with the royal purple filter by champion labs. Like Raven has pointed out cut open these filters are almost identical.

And prefer paying $9 @ WM for the Fram XG Ultra filter rather than $15 for RP filter on Amazon.

Besides, Fram has hand soon on grip coating & RP does'nt.

What about the napa platinum filter (47899), is it any good. I bought 3 filters last oil change to try out; Mopar, RP, and Platinum.

I have the Napa Platinum and Castrol Edge 5w20 on/in my HEMI. Its runs and sounds great.

NAPA platinum exploded view looks identical to Fram XG ultra & RP , all three filters have wire reinforced micro glass synthetic filter media,
Only difference is the canister color.
Like the paint job better on the platinum.....will be next filter
There is actually a NAPA u- tube video on the platinum.

I cut both the Amsoil (same as RP) and the Fram Ultra open on an earlier thread. They are almost identical. Both high quality.

Napa Platinum is roughly half the efficiency of an Ultra or Amsoil @ 20 microns. Not a great choice IMOH.

There’s a very informative channel on YouTube about filters, FilterKingz and CarsNtoys. They both do detailed filter dissections. The Fram Ultra looks really high quality. I was surprised how many OEM filters are rebranded cheap Fram’s... I was never on the use OEM only or your truck will implode into a black hole and the devil will take your first born on their 3rd birthday. I love my Mobil1 filters but wouldn’t hesitate to use the Fram Ultra.

Ok, so I have always been a ford guy. Bought a new 2015 Laramie a month ago. Put 1550 miles onorth it and decided to do its first oil change. After reading on here and other sites..decided to go with Pennzoil Platinum full syn 5w20 and a Fram Ultra 10060 filter since that's what walmart had. I immediately noticed that when starting..it revs a little higher initially..and actually had a rattle for a second or two. I have put 500 to 600 miles more on it with that setup...but the rattle etc bugged me. SOOO, I stopped and got a factory Mopar 339 filter at dealership tonight and went home and changed it out...topped off oil (about 1/2 qt)...and started. Did not review as high starting...didn't notice the rattle either. Oil pressure seemed a couple psi lower with the mopar...but that's about it. 53 or 54 instead of 56(ultra) when cold... and about 33 when hot and idling I think. Will know more in morNing after it has sat all night.
Is it possible that the ultra was too restrictive causing it to rev up and rattle trying to get oil flow going or ? Some people swear by that filter...but I am not sure on mine...
Crazy stuff. My ford's was always the Motorcraft filters and Motorcraft oil...easy. These Ramsey seem finicky from what all I read...some tick..some rattle..some dont. Lol
Fram filters have been **** for years.

Mopar is no different than anyone else. They put out a tender for a filter and whoever comes in the cheapest wins the contract.Same old.
