Hey there,
I just wanted to introduce myself and give props to this site. There are other RAM Forum sites out there, some are a lot larger but I have been on this site as an unregistered guest for about two weeks now and there is one big difference, the members of this site seem to have more fun and are actively engaged. Some of the other sites members seemed like they did not have time for new RAM owners and their comments showed it. This is my first RAM, I am switching from a line of GMC & Chevy trucks so obviously I have a lot of questions and it seemed as if this forum caters to both the new RAM owners and the experienced RAM owners. I just wanted to put that out there as a reason why I joined.

Now on to the good details!! My wife and I have been waiting for a couple of months now for the delivery of our RAM. We ordered a 2013 Laramie Longhorn, 5.7 Hemi, 8 speed Trans, 3.92 rear-end, Canyon Brown / Light Frost Beige Interior, Black clear coat, and just about all the bells and whistles that they offered. I am so excited, I can almost taste it….BUT….”production delays” have delayed this truck from its original delivery date of 7 /2 to 8 /1 and now (8/14) I am still waiting. The last update was that it left Michigan and it is on a rail car to Virginia, where it will ultimately be delivered to the Hampton Roads area. They say that it will be at the dealer this week but we will see…. My wife is currently serving in the Navy so we purchased the truck through a deployed service member program and got a heck of a deal. THANK YOU CHRYSLER FOR SUPPORTING OUR SERVICE MEMBERS!!!!

Being that there are a lot of RAM owners here, my first question is (from all of your experience) what are some of the things I should look for when I pick the truck up from the dealer? How can I avoid being overwhelmed and miss some scratch and now I have to fight with the dealer to fix it? RAM should have some sort of checklist……

I look forward to gaining even more knowledge than I already have as my time as an unregistered guest…….I will post some pictures as soon as I pick her up!!

Welcome. We bought our first car (2003 Dodge neon) while serving overseas and I can imagine you got an awesome deal. Tell your wife I said thank you for her service

I always go first thing in the morning when picking up a vehicle and I do a walk around looking at every inch of the vehicle. I also check underneath as well as check the oil and coolant levels

Finally I take it for a test drive to make sure it drives straight, no weird sounds, and then check every feature to make sure it works as described.

I am sure I miss specific steps so others will keypunch know what else to check

Off the top of my head, here are 8 things to QA before you even drive it:
1) Check the paint carefully--don't agree to pick it up except in broad daylight. Look for metallic overspray, color variations and paint holidays--on the roof too.
2) Crawl under and check the left side of the rear axle. Make sure the sticker there says 3.92 and not 3.24 or 3.55 if that's what you ordered.
3) Look closely at the black vinyl applique on the driver and rear door window frame on both sides--no tears, bubbles or wrinkles.
5) Bring your cell and it's charger and check all the outlets to ensure they work. Your iPod and its cord will let you check the USB in the upper glove box.
6) Examine your truck bed to ensure it's at least close to square.
7) Check out the radio/nav unit; push the buttons and try to confuse it.
8) Turn on the headlights and ensure they are equally bright--even in daytime should be able to see if there is a difference in the intensity.

Luck! :rockit:

Welcome to RF! I agree with your ranking of RF vs other Ram sites.
It's a pretty close community.

Which reminds me, you should order a Catch Can before too long.

welcome to RF. Some good info posted already about what to check when taking delivery. I don't know if i could ever order a truck, i'm way to impatient. I would be going nuts with the delays lol

Thanks White Express. I have been seeing a lot of postings on a catch can and I can definately see its benefits. I really havent started to research them yet but are there any that are better than others? How do they look on our HEMI's?

Just get a billet technologies unit.

There are a couple site vendors that carry them and have good deals.
Here is my can installed on my 2500:

While I think a catch can is a wonderful and valuable addition to any Hemi, it is honestly just my jab since everyone on RF seems to have one.

Welcome aboard!
After much reading I also decided the catch can was a must (I just drained it again last night, and am collecting quite the pickle jar full of 'yuck' which would have otherwise been ingested through the engine) but didn't care for the cheesy (IMO) BT logo on the top of it, and the placement of it for ease of emptying. There are options out there also available from our incredibly helpful forum supporting vendors.

Being new to the forum, it didn’t even occur to me to check out our supporting vendors. Thanks I definitely will support those who support this forum.
