wish you could have spent more for a lower mileage truck from my viewpoint but it is what it is so enjoy. I have gotten rid of so many vehicles with less than 7500 (not 75,000) miles that someone out there no doubt got a great deal on. The truck will come in handy now that you have some land, in the past mine have come in so handy.

If you left the dealership feeling good about the deal. Then that's all that matters. Doing the research after the fact and asking on here is pointless. And you might find info you don't want to here. The first thing I do when buying a older truck is go through it and do all the maintenance stuff. That way I know it's done, what quality of parts are in it. And at what milage they were done. Good looking truck congrats!

Right. And I did do a lot of research ahead of time. My original post wasn't intended as validation, just more to spark discussion and get some insight from guys who actually own the trucks (probably could have done that beforehand).

When you say go through it and do all the maintenance stuff, or you saying like preventative/do things yourself that may have been done when the dealer took it in? Like, I know Hemis & spark plugs are a big discussion - is that something you'd change as soon as you got the truck if you didn't know exactly when they were previously done?

I agree, maintenance should be first and foremost with a book indicating what and when you've had it done. Once the physical part checks out, then one or two play things can be added. Since I am retired I don't worry about mileage and if sadly my Ram does go boom, then another one will take its place. :)

Nah your opinion matters, otherwise I wouldn't have asked! If I didn't work from home, and needed a daily driver to get to work, I probably wouldn't go the high mileage route. But my car could be parked for maintenance and it'd have minimal impact on me - at least for a short period of time.

Look up ur maintenance schedule for ur truck. If it was to b done in the past. Then I would do every bit of it. And use good oils. Amsoil signature series, royal purple, redline oil being the best. Spark plugs are major. Every 30k. I called b.s. On it and at 42k I get 8 to 9 mpg around small town. And my #5 cylinder has a miss fire. So tomarrow this will b my project. U might not need to do everything. But do you really now if it does or not?

Good points.

My dad is a former BG rep, and he's got access to plenty of stuff like 44k & MOA. I've always used it on my German cars, wasn't sure how valuable it was on domestics.

I've always run synthetic oil and 93 octane as well. Is that something that has any value with these trucks?

Most definitely! I only run good quality synthetics. And the best octane I can. Runs better and cleaner. No point in buying cheap gas and watching water run out ur tail pipe I'd rather spend more and use less. Then spend less and use more. That's the way I look at it anyways.

93 octane is a waste of money and provides no greater performance unless you install a tuner that is programed for using it. Ram recommends 89 Octane and also says 87 is acceptable right in the owner manual.

100 proof alcohol is a waste of money and provides no better affect. Then say a beer! Next time u go to the pump pour a couple gallons of water in ur tank. It will b cheaper to fill up.

Welcome to the forum!

I would change all 16 spark plugs, and all the oils just incase. I wouldn't trust any dealership saying that they already did that stuff.

I just picked up a 2010 may be 2 months ago and it had 148k when I bought it its a 2wd lone star crew cab and I was estactic to pick it up for 10500 from a private party. Full crew cab trucks were insane even for older one I don't feel you got the deal of a lifetime but you didn't just get flat bent over I would say middle ground. So far I have about 2-2500 in catching up maintance but it drives like a new truck now. I'm chaseing a nosie that I suspect as lifters or timing chain time will tell.

Yeah if I were willing to compromise on 4wd, Hemi, or crew cab, I could have saved a good bit of money.

The real steals are the regular cab trucks. If you're willing to go that route used, you can get one for a song.

And what is wrong with the statement?
93 is a waste of money in this truck. But only if you're not a millionaire and can care less. For all others, do your research and learn, what the octane number says and in what relation it is to the engine. Then you would understand.

Your right! low grade fuel is a lot better for a hemi in the long run.

Higher octane rating does not equate to better fuel. Unless you have a tuner on the truck to utilize the higher octane fuel, 89 is perfect. On a stock truck there is zero benefit from 93 octane compared to 89.

"Low grade fuel" is an incorrect statement. The hemi is not tuned to use the potential of 93 octane and the owner would pay more for no advantage unless they had a tuner. 89 is recommended, but you can go ahead and spend more per fill up if it makes you feel better. :roflsquared:
