Hey gang,

Just traded in my SRT8 Charger for a new 2013 1500 Crew with 5.7

Wondering where I should start with the hopes of improving MPG, more power is always welcomed as well.

Thanks.

Welcome to Ramforum. Your basic bolt-ons will show slight gains in mileage. I would start off with a cold air intake, ported throttle body, and a free flowing muffler. You should see about a 1.5mpg increase with these mods.

Intakes - Your 2 options for the 2013 are the Vararam and the S&B. The Vararam will show the best all out performance gains, but the S&B comes in at a close 2nd with excellent build quality.

Ported Throttle Body - Our 87mm throttle body has been tried and tested by hundreds of members here. It is going to show an instant bump in throttle response as well as an easy 10-12hp gain. It also installs in just a few minutes making a tough mod to beat.

Muffler - I would replace the stock muffler with a better flowing Magnaflow. Magnaflow mufflers have a straight through design that offer the best combination of performance and sound. You have multiple options depending on how loud you want it to be. The shorter the muffler the louder it will be.

Once these mods are done, I would start looking into a tuner to help tie everything together. As of now, Bullydog is the only company offering tuning for the 13's, but they are still working out a few kinks in the tune. I would hold off on this until they get a few of the bugs worked out. Diablo is also saying they are within a few weeks of releasing their 2013 tuning, so you will have a few options to choose from.

There aren't any turbo or supercharger kits available yet for the 2013's. Even the 2012 guys are very limited on this because of tuning. Also, the Bullydog tuner will not work with any form of forced induction as it is not custom tunable. You are going to want to wait for Diablo if you plan to add boost down the road.

I've been thinking about this too. If the 3 mods get an extra 1.5mpg then it will take a little over 3 years to pay for itself at today's gas price if my math is correct (50/50 usually :))

My MPG would go from 16 to 17.5. It would net me an extra 37.5 miles a tank or save 2.14 gallons every tank. I fill up once a week typically. 2.14gallons x 4 weeks = 8.56gallons/month; 8.56 x 36 months = 308.16 gallons (x $3.22 (todays gas price)) = $992

Does anyone know how much extra mpg the tuner (when available) will give with these other mods already in place?

While performance parts can and will help with mileage, I would not buy these parts specifically looking for mileage gains. They are designed to give your truck more power to make it more fun to drive and more capable for work. If you see an increase in mileage as well, then that is just icing n the cake.

Totally agree. I know there are plenty of benefits to them. I just wouldn't purchase for mpg alone.

Do you have any idea on the tuner mpg increase? I have buddies telling me they get really good gains on their 2500s.

If fuel mileage is your concern, press your gas pedal with your big toe (be easy) and set your cruise at 65 instead of 70, and you will probably see the same increase in fuel economy that you would installing performance parts. Also, when I am trying to achieve good fuel economy, I try and keep my truck from kicking out of MDS.

Many guys see between 1-2mph increases with the gas tuners. Diesels can gain up to 4-5mpg increases.

Cool.. Thanks for the reply. Personally, I would have bought a prius if i was concerned about it. I bought my Hemi with total disregard for mpg.

My first question is why do you buy a 5500 lb truck with a 400hp V-8 and want MPG:hidesbehindsofa:
