I have a 2009 1500 Crew Cab with some rust problems. As of now the rust is confined to the rocker panels, with a little on the driver door. I do not want a new truck payment and am asking anyone out there if it is worth putting new rockers in. I hate bondo, so I want to replace with all new metal. Suggestions?

If you don't want the payment on a new truck, then, yeah it's worth it.

You'll cut out the old rusty metal, apply some rust preventer to the material left behind, then make a patch panel and start welding. If you haven't done this before I'd suggest you leave it to the experts.

You might find some rockers available online. They would be preformed so that would definitely be easier than beating out a pair by hand.

My rockers were fine, but I had rust on the wheel wells of the cab... bad. And the hood and the front panel. Mines a 2012 with 90k miles so for me it was worth the 1500 to have it all replaced by a body shop. I shopped around for a few months. Got quotes from 1500-4000. Took a chance and glad I did, hate having payments. Good luck, I second the other comment... Id pay for the panels to be done and not chance it myself.

Thanks for the words of wisdom. Another reason I do not want to get rid of the truck is that I purchased the truck new with the lifetime bumper to bumper warranty. So, this truck is basically maintenance free monetarily speaking.

Daveray9 - did the body shop weld in new metal on your rust, or could you purchase pre-fab parts?

I believe the wheel wells were prefab metal parts bit the other parts were not. They cut out the pieces then welded the new ones on.... sanded filled sanded painted. Shop around and make sure they arent using mesh and filler. If your in MA I know a great place.
