I just bought a 2009 1500 5.7 4x4 crew cab. One of the previous owners really did a number on the wiring around the battery. To the point that he fried the TIPM. I have a new TIPM on the way, but in the meantime, I am trying to fix the various wiring issues he caused. The only questions I have are where this black and red wire connects at the battery end. The other end is connected to the alternator. Also, there is a light bluish colored wire that is cut that says "fusible link" on it. Anyone know where that connects? I don't want to risk connecting these to the wrong place and causing more issues.

Is that the only large wire connection on the alternator?

I have to look, but AFAIK, mine is connected to the Battery B+ through a fuseable link on the battery post.

Let me see if I can dig up a service manual for your truck.

There is a 2008 service manual here. I will scan the 2009 manual I have ASAP, but I have snow removal waiting.

Thanks. I have a service manual, but I am not 100% positive it is the correct one. It says it's for 2006 - 2009. It is showing this... schematic.jpg

The 2009 service manual I have will require some work to open.
I did find a 2008 manual and grabbed this pic.

I apologize, I need to quit procrastinating and start moving the snow. If the wire is the only large wire on the alternator, it should be connected to the positive battery terminal, but definitely through a fuseable link.

Very important that it's fused!
