I would like to get a set of flares, but haven't because of all the stories I hear about paint rub and rust under the flares after time.

What if plastidip was sprayed on the fender under the flares. Would that help prevent rust?

I haven't had any issues with them yet. Had them on for almost 3 years. I don't even like the things but the rock's were destroying my paint. I also get my truck professionally detailed 4 times a year and get Crown undercoating 1 a year. No rub or rust yet.

U will never stop rust. U can only slow it down. Most of the fenders that rust have material on the back side that holds water. If installed correctly they won't rub the paint off. As for the screws, if any, that secure it from the bottom. As long as u use some sort of sealant for the screw hole it will be fine.

I forget who and what thread it was posted in but one of the guys here installed clear body tape underneath the flare where it sits against the body. I did this with mine to prevent paint wear.

This is what I used...

3M Scotchgard Clear Hood and Trunk Edge Sealer Paint Protection Tape Roll (.5" x 30ft) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072MPQ2SP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_bk5vAbENF1PZ7

I used some clear 3m tape where the rubber meets the paint. I have Bushwackers and they had rubbed into some of the clear coat. Apparently Bushwacker knows this is a problem and they told me it is written somewhere in their instructions that this may happen. They’re solution was to send me more rubber seal. I don’t get how that’s a solution, but I’ll never buy there flares again.

I installed my pocket style flares today. New flares came with a rubber gasket that attatches to top of flare where it makes contact with the body. The factory flare had no rubber, just plastic to paint. When i removed stock flares, no paint was worn off. You will be fine.
