Researched this yesterday due to the same concern.I noticed we all use 3 ton floor jacks. My truck has a GVWR of 6900#. Should it be of any concern that we are probably over the weight limit for the jacks and jack stands (if anyone is using the 3 ton stands)?
Research curb weight vs gross weight and see what you come up with.
Curb weight on my crew cab is 52XX. That’s allegedly with a full tank of fuel.
3 tons is 6k lbs.
To me, that gives us roughly 800lbs of room. Plus, with the jack in place, I believe we’re okay.
GVWR is different than GVW and different than curb weight.
But see what you think.
I welcome engineers’ opinions on this.
