do you really have to buy all kinds of extra crap to put a double din in a factory radio that will handle a double din opening for a 2010 doge ram. about 1200 from best buy. why can't i just put it in myself? i know i sound ignorant. but hey i gotta learn somewhere.

You just need some adapters for crutch field I think. And a saw. There are bunches of threads about this. Not trying to sound like a jerk, but try using the handy search button.

What are you coming from, and what are you going to? OE has a CAN bus, and it does require special adapters. $1200 seems high. How much is the new deck? For reference, check Crutchfield. Their online tool will tell you what all you need.

Adapter and Mounting kit... $40 for both tops. I'd guess your getting a Top of the Line nav unit for $1000 at a RETAIL price and they are charging you $160 dollars for 30 minutes worth of work.

As stated, it shouldn't be anywhere near that expensive. Best Buy charges about $40-$60 extra on their adapters. I would look at online retailers or Ebay/Amazon before buying from a physical store. Your price breakdown should be as follows:

  • Radio Cost
  • Harness / Wiring $85 - $100 (no steering wheel control)
  • Mounting Kit - $15
  • Wire Butt Caps / Crimps - $15
  • Antenna adapter - $15

They are probably charging you an arm and a leg. Go to Crutchfield and chat with an advisor for the parts or go to Sonic Electronix and call them. Both are awesome and have good prices. If you need anything additional the cost can go up too - GPS, steering wheel control adapter, satellite radio adapter, etc.

Doing the installation isn't bad either. There are tons of guides and youtube videos on it. I just did my first install by myself based on guides and youtube and had never done anything like it before. It was not bad at all.

If its a nicer one with Nav then it's going to cost about that. I paid $1100 installed for my pioneer with Nav and Bluetooth.

I used to work for best buy and they are trying to rob you blind...lol...i would just do it myself. The only good thing about thier installs is that they give you life time warranty on install.
