How do you keep a brand new truck free from rust? Well obviously not completely free but from having the salt from the roads since I live in NY and some winters and salt can get pretty nasty? I would hate a new truck rot out in a couple of years from the salt. If any, what ways?

I would have to say washing it as often as possible would be about the only way to keep it as rust free as possible. Or, move down here to the south.

The Best is Don't Drive it from Halloween to Easter! and it will last forever!

Good Question Though. When I lived in the East I had mine Dripless Sprayed at Walmart every November, wait a week and go back and tellem they Missed a spot then they respray the spots. You need to have the appropriate sills and panels drilled for the spray wand to get in there and they will put plastic plugs. I also did the annual Rustcheck but found that stuff washed off by early Feb. I beleive Ziebart is Likely in your area.

Not to Boast but Since Living out West I refuse to ever work on a vehicle from East of Kenora as I am used to now not having to use Heat or saw **** off. My 2001 PT Cruiser which my Daughter has still has the Original Exhaust System

I wash mine atleast once a week no matter the weather conditions and detail it every other month. I wax the entire thing, door jambs, inside the fuel door and even under the hood. I have it in my calender when its due for a detail. Best part is I have a garage where I work that I can clean it in during the winter months. When its warm enough outside I wash it even if there is a layer of dust on it, it bugs me when its not clean. I think I have a mild case of OCD when it comes to cleaning the truck.

POR 15!!! Its a paint that hardens and stops rust, similar to undercoating but better, I havent hit my brand new truck with it yet, but its amazing stuff. works verrrry well, looks nice at first but it has no UV protection so it fades after a little time. Otherwise its awesome and easy to apply. Little expensive but well worth it. Once its on and dried it hardens almost like a linex bedliner material. From a fellow Upstate New Yorker and frequent winter traveler, its POR-15 to the rescue for that!

POR15 is great. But read the directions about 10 times before opening the can. And another 10 times before applying. Best stuff in the world if you follow the directions, but a huge waste of money if you can't.

Funny you guys mention these posts in that order. My best friends dad has had a 1992 gmc sierra since new. He put that bs electric charge thing on that truck the day he brought it home. ******** thing still looks brand new. He puts about 10kmi per year on it and its no garage queen. I never knew how that thing has held up so well over the years.

If its just on the surface Rompin, grind it out, hit it with a good self etching primer and repaint
Even though it'd be under the flare I don't think I could use POR15 on the body lol I would rather have a regular enamel paint that didn't match lol
