Front axle shaft ....never seen this before..

1997 ram 1500 4x4 just replaced right side hub and u joint went for a ride and this happens.. what would cause this...I'm stumped ..the shaft was previously replaced to eliminate the va uum actuator ...for 4WD..opened up the up the diff cover no visual physical damage ..thx

Something siezed up, could have been at speed, could have been crawling in 4 low. Ive seen broken joints before, and it really could have been a 1000 reasons. Hows the other side look. If you lift the front completely and turn the other tire does that shaft spin even in 2wd?

What do you mean it was replaced to eliminate CAD? Did you install a full solid shaft? If that's the case you could likely contact the part supplier
