Well I hit a deer today. Haven't even got the license plates for this truck yet, which figures. Small doe, was only going about 30 by the time I hit it. It put a small dent in the steel bumper, and bent the left side to where it's 1/2" out of flush with the drivers side fender. So it looks like I'll be needing a new bumper. Anyone have experience with some aftermarket heavy duty setups? I don't want some 500 pound behemoth with mounts for a winch, and enough lights for a football stadium. Something that just replaces the bumper and plastic cover that's sturdy enough to withstand the damn deer.

I too hit a deer with my truck about a year ago. When you say you want something "heavy duty" yet only replaces the stock bumper and plastic cover that is sturdy enough has me a bit confused.

I think you want some thing steel but not over designed or diamond plated ranch style.

I think maybe a fusion bumper would work for you:

I have an iron bull bumper but, it may be too much for you. I think it looks good but you might have a different impression :)

Both bumpers, the fusion and iron bull, weigh just around 200lbs.

That's somewhat what I had in mind. I had a ranchhand on my 01 Cummins, and that was a lot of iron. It was big enough between the grill and grill guard I could stand on it like a platform to work on the engine. That first one is about perfect. How's the quality of their product? I hear some nasty things about guys getting bumpers that don't fit worth a damn.

I have not heard really anything bad about the fusion bumpers. It should fit right out the gate just fine. My Iron bull did and it was completely leveled. If your steel bumper is off a tad, it is an easy fix. The mounting brackets are very large and you can just file the bolt holes to fit. It would not affect any structural integrity in my opinion at all. That show "diesel brothers" used a lot of fusion bumpers.

If you want to read my write up on my bumper you can check it out here:

I am sure someone on the Internet has a Fusion write up.

I see that Fusion isn't far away from me. Maybe I'll take a trip to their shop and see them before I buy one.

I went with Magnum ICI but if i was close to fusion I probably would have gone that direction. For me down in CA shipping was $350 or some ridiculous number. I've given a few cows a bump to get em moving and it seems to be holding up pretty well so far.

I'm partial to the AEV, if only I had the scratch...
