Fellas,

I bought a new intermediate shaft on the right side front differential. I was able to put all of the needle bearings in and the main bearing and seal.

I’ve got the entire front end removed, and I cleaned up so many bolts on the bench grinder wheel

I believe I have three of the four mounting bolts that holds that housing to the differential. I called a local Dodge dealer and they’re telling me they don’t even show the bolts.

Does anyone know the correct part number for those four bolts that mount that intermediate shaft housing to the differential?

I’ve been tearing up the garage and I cannot find that fourth bolt. I have one that is the same thread pitch, but it’s a little shorter. I’m assuming all four bolts should be the same length?

I’ve been looking online using AI. And I’m getting all kinds of different information.

Thanks for any help on this!

How much shorter is the bolt,if it's only an 1/4" shorter odds are it'll work,if it's a 1/2" shorter then i'd get a longer bolt. You should be able to get a comparable bolt at a bolt supply house or maybe even your local hardware store

Tractor Supply sells Grade 5 bolts…. Should be a good match down there. If not, then NAPA or Fastenal will have what you need.

I got the oil pan in yesterday. Today I put in that brace/bracket (8 bolts). That’s the one that covers part of the rear side of the oil pan.

And I got that cross brace back in. That’s the one you have to remove to drop the oil pan. Two of the four bolts were rusted. I got two new ones from the local ram parts dept.

I found out where that slightly shorter bolt went. That’s the one that goes through a support bracket for the cooling lines. There’s another threaded hole on the outside of the Transmission.

So I’m back to where I started. I’ve got that new intermediate shaft, bearings and new seal installed.

There are four bolts that hold that aluminum housing onto the right side of the front differential.

I’ve had a heck of a time trying to find the correct part number for those bolts. Even the Ram dealer said he couldn’t find it on the computer.

If anyone knows the part number for those four bolts, please let me know?

Thanks!

Why are you hung up on getting the mopar bolt, take one of the bolts you have and hit up your local parts houses and hardware stores, you should be able to find a bolt fairly close, even if it's longer, chuck it in a vise and use a hacksaw to shorten it.

Or add one or more washers or lock washers under the bolt head.

After the ordeal of getting the CV axle off that intermediate differential shaft, ordering a new one (with new bearings, seal, etc), I’d like to avoid any future potential problems.

By the way, are these the correct torque specs for that front cross brace bolts (4).

I’m seeing 130 foot pounds online. It may be correct, but it seems like a lot for those bolts. Right now they’re just snugged down fairly well.

Thanks

I’ve been doing research online for a few hours.

I also checked the existing bolts with a dial caliper. I think these are M12 bolts. Thread pitch 1.75 and total length 42mm. Actual bolt length from the bottom of the flange head is @ 32/33mm. I’m assuming a 35 mm length should also still work? These are 10.9 strength bolts.

However, trying to find these bolts on online is difficult. And not having them show up two weeks later. And this is dealing with other companies.

I would see these bolts online showing partial thread or full thread
.

The original “partial” thread bolts are about 25% of the total length. Looking at partials for bolts on websites it looks like the “partial” part is way too long. So now I’m looking at full threaded bolts.

For the life of me, I don’t know why Mopar makes this so difficult to find these bolts. Or to find a diagram, showing the mounting bolts on that intermediate shaft housing to the differential? Or to find the corresponding part number?

And I called the local dealer and they told me they don’t show the bearing. And it only says that they sell the entire intermediate shaft and the housing for over $4000. This is insanity that they don’t sell replacement parts for that intermediate shaft? And they don’t even show the bolts that mounts that housing to the differential.

And the one thing I don’t like about this intermediate shaft kit that I bought (rock auto), is that they include a sealed bearing. And the inner race is extremely thin. I’m not impressed.

I found a video on YouTube where a guy would either heat up one part in an oven and freeze the other part. This was when seating the needle bearings or the main bearing. That actually worked well. I put some oil on each part and they went into place without any difficulty. I use a socket, the same size as the needle bearings to tap it into place. The same process worked with the seal on the housing..

I got it in with a narrow point punch, but there was some minor dents in the metal above the bearing. Again, the inner race was way too thin!

I know the part number for the original bearing is 61909 (deep groove). That’s the one where the bearings are visible. Because they’re bathed in differential fluid anyway. It looks more heavy duty.

The prices for these bearings are through the roof! And it looks like they’re all coming from overseas, with VAT, extortionate shipping and delays.

Do we not have companies in the United States making these bearings?

The actual original main bearing looks like it’s in decent shape. And the inner race is much thicker. Is there any downside to using that bearing again?

Thanks.

I’m starting to to put the driver side front end together

I’m still waiting on the lower strut spring “seats”, “isolators” for the front struts

I’m getting ready to put the CV axle on the driver side differential shaft. What should I coat that with? Anti-seize? Or another lubricant?

The knuckle and the dust shield came out real nice. I’ve got the new hub bearing assembly in.

I’m also going to be doing the inner and outer tie rods on that side. I’m putting it together.

Would someone please post that tool again to compress the metal clamp over the rubber boot at the back of the inner tie rod?

Thanks!

One last question about the inner tie rod. Are we supposed to be using any lubrication around the back of the inner tie rod? Under the rubber boot?

I found the missing bolt for the right side, intermediate shaft housing. I was looking for the torque specs online for the four bolts to mount the housing to the differential

It’s saying 35 to 45 foot pounds. I’m gonna try 40 foot pounds.
