Hey guys, I have a 99 1500 4x4 with 180k. It has developed a new noise in the front end. Very intermittent, seems to be started when I hit a bump in the road. I would describe it as a cross between a squeal and a grind, heavier on the grind. The truck has suffered from the death wobble, but I've been working on fixing that. It sounds like the noise is coming from the driver side, but I'm not certain. I lifted the truck up to inspect it, and nothing looks out of the ordinary, no real bad wear marks or anything. I'm totally at a loss for where to even start looking.

I really appreciate any help. Thanks.

Make sure your shock bolts are torqued down to spec first.

Then the only thing I can really think of would be the hub on that side.

I had a shop replace the hub bearings.

The noise can last anywhere from a fraction of a second, to 30 seconds. It sounds like it is related to the front end spinning. I suspect it might be in the front differential, maybe the hub.....just not sure where to start looking

I'd jack one end of the front end up, grab the tire and start looking for play. I had a grind that was a bad wheel (hub) bearing. Death wobble is usually track bar, if I understand right, that might be worth replacing. Its a good part to replace in these trucks. I got a hold of a Moog problem solver one, its a damn nice bar, like twice as thick as the one that was on it, plus a nice greasable balljoint on it :D

But ya I would start by looking for play in parts, see what happens.
