Hey guys, I've been having some front end suspension noise the last 3-4 weeks, but I don't know what's causing it. The only thought that came to mind is that my mechanic said 1 or 2 of my ball joints were worn and should be replaced a couple months back. But at that time I had no front end suspension noise going on so I just left it. So the only question I have is this: Do ball joints when they are worn or need to be replaced rattle or knock when going over bumps/pot holes..? And if so, after I get them replaced do I need to go for front end alignment afterwards..? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Ball joints will make a popping noise over bumps. If you replace them you might as well replace all of them and the tie rod ends. You will most likely need and alignment of you do tie rod ends. You will also need a ball joint press(you can rent one from auto parts stores). It's pretty easy but for the lower you will have to take a grinder to the control arm to get the ball joint press set up to get the ball joint out. i also used a ball joint and tie rod end separater.

I agree if your gonna due it yourself I suggest doing the inner and outer tie rods and upper control arms and lower ball joints. You can get an inexpensive kit on 1aauto.com But if you are bringing I to a shop and are being cost effective just replace what's broken but be warned the other stuff is most likely on its ways out and yes you need and alignment after any replacing of balljoints or tie rods don't matter how good your are or who does it. You'll ruin your tires and possibly other front end parts if you don't

Are the lowers replaceable by grinding the ring out or are they normal? I have to grind out the ring to remove mine so I'll be doing entire arms on the bottom as well. Do you get a real springy feeling when going over bumps? You could have a blown strut as well which will make a clunking sound.
