My 2013, with a 5.7 & dual exhaust gets around 12.6 to 12.9 around town.
I took it in for recall items (3).
They gave me an early 2019 (same body style as mine) 5.7 with single pipe to drive; it averages 19.5 to 20 around town!
Does the 8 spd tranny vs my 6 spd make that much difference???
I really like my truck, only had it for little over a year (had 33k mi when I bought it); but the gas mileage is making me have 2nd thoughts!

I have a 2019 Classic CC with 5.7 and 3.21, and I get between 13.5 and 14.3 in Phoenix traffic. In fact, pretty much all of my driving is city driving. I have an 8.5-mile commute to work and it's all surface streets. That's a lot of stop-and-go, of course, and the best I can do is a little over 14 mpg. On the highway, I can get about 19.5, but I don't do much freeway driving.

So I'm not sure how you're getting nearly 20 in town, but I guess it all depends on how the traffic is where you're driving and how you drive.

How fast are you grannies driving on the highway to avg 19+

For the record I dont haven't had a ticket in over 16 years and regularly drive 10 over. Being in Texas highway speeds are 75 plus my 10 over.

Changing from a 2005 Hemi-6 speed to a 2013 Hemi 8 speed (both with 3:92 gears I believe, I know the 2013 had them for sure), I did notice about a 20%-25% increase in fuel economy straight across the board.
The 2005 would get 12-13 in the city and I was lucky to see 17 on the highway, even when driving "easy". The 2013 would get 16-ish in the city and I could get nearly 20 on the highway if I kept it under 100... LoL...
I attribute it to the tranny and the cylinder cut-off thing while cruising (which I cannot remember what it's called right now)...

6.5 mpg around town on my 2012 5.7L Hemi 70K miles on the truck.

That's pretty bad... there's definitely something not right I don't think I could get 6.5mpg city if I was deliberately trying to.

For what it's worth, I think the 100k mile spark plug interval started on 2014's or late 2013's and it was 30k miles before that - so your plugs might have a huge gap and that could be contributing to poor mileage and maybe reduced power too.

Double check to be sure, but I think you can put platinum or iridium plugs in your truck to extend the next interval. I also believe that to have the plugs changed by the dealer you're probably looking at 2 hours labor plus around $100 for the plugs themselves so the vicinity of $350-400ish for the service. That's not free but if it solves your fuel consumption problem it would pay for itself in a few weeks.

Are you certain you didn't have the V6 in that loner truck? That would seem to make more sense to me on the mileage numbers. I thought the 5.7 always came with dual pipes except for the fleet vehicles (I could easily be wrong on that, just basing on what I have seen on the road) My '17 stock truck with 5.7 and 3.21 gears gets between 16-18 around town and 18 to 21 hwy, at least in the summer.

On another note, how did you get them to give you a truck for a loner? They always give me a POS Jeep Renegade that has less balls than Paris Hilton.

Last time I took my truck in for service, I got a brand new (@900 miles) 2019 1500 "Classic" Ram for the loaner. Didn't have all the bling-bling, but it was nice having a truck instead of a JeEp Compass or something else which shuts off at the stoplight... LoL...

Also, Paris Hilton has LOTS of balls, they are just up by her chin is all...

I am getting horrible mileage, about 6.5 mpg around town on my 2012 5.7L Hemi 70K miles on the truck. Pretty much stock everything (stock tyres, no engine mods or exhausts). . I havent had it for very long.

I was wondering if it needed maybe a fuel filer change, but when I try to search for the 5.7 fuel filters, all I am getting is the diesel engine in the results. Where is the fuel filter located on the vehicle and where to buy?

Any other ideas why it would be getting such bad mileage? I already changed the air filter. I have not done the spark plugs as yet, because I read somewhere that they should be good for 100k miles. Any ideas where else to look to improve the mpg?

There is no fuel filter to change on your truck. I agree with kurek (post #24). It sounds like you are in need of a tune up. Replace the spark plugs they are probably original and overdue. Your 2012 Hemi truck will have copper plugs due for replacement every 30,000 miles. Some people have switched to iridium plugs (late 2013 and up Hemi) without issues some have had problems. I would also clean the throttle body. There is a thread on how to do it right around here somewhere.

I have a 2019 5.7 w/3.21 gear and single exhaust (not a fleet truck). My dash lies like crazy it regularly tells me 14 to 16 mpg around town. Hand calculation is always 1 mpg less. I also know that if I travel on the highway at speeds under 75 mph I get a noticeable step up in the MPG and that the "ECO" mode stays more engaged. When I have over 75 the ECO is on an off with minor changes in road pitch and any wind shear.

This cracks me up when I see complaints about it being 1 mpg off. These mpg measurements are based on baseline measurements of fuel pressure vs fuel injector pulse width or fuel gauge measurement vs miles traveled so a 5-10% accuracy is the most you can hope for. And you're assuming your hand calculation is dead nuts on but even if you fill at the same exact pump every time the ambient temperature can cause errors in that pump. You will get more fuel / measured gallon in the morning when the fuel is cooler vs afternoon when the ground has heated and the fuel expands. Day to day it will be different. At best the mpg calc your truck does is a relative measurement at best.

Thanks guys. Yeah I am looking to do the plug change. Trying to decide if I should chance the Iridium or stick to the copper.

Btw, How many miles are you guys getting to a full tank of gas normally?

I get 19.5-20mpg and drive about 40 miles a day for work. Get on the road and set the cruise to 60mph. Also have the 3.21 gears and about to hit 30k miles.

Current performance mods: Corsa Stainless Cat Back, AEM Drop In Dry Filter, Pedal Commander, TeamRX Catch Can, Belltech 965SP 2/4 drop, Hellwig Sway Bar, Satin Black 22"x10" SRT 10 Replicas, Nitto N420S 305/40R22

I can say before my vararam I seen 22 at best but I see 24 now. Granted I got my vararam about the same time as "summer gas" but I like to think the extra horses reduced work which is why my ponies drink less lol

I have a 2017 cc express 8 speed with 5.7 3.21 gears,2.8 Bilstein lift in front 1.5 spacer lift in back. It's also got 305/55/20 Falken Wildpeak tires that weigh 71 lbs a piece. I almost always get 17 mpg on each tank and sometimes 18. That said, I'm not flooring it at every red light, or running 90 down the interstate, although I will do 75. My round trip to work is 64 miles and 11 miles of that is 55 mph highway with not many red lights, and the rest is interstate. The 8 speed makes a huge difference. I have friends with the 6 speed and they do not get the mileage I get. When mine was stock, I could get 22-23.

2012 Sport 5.7 6 speed. Getting about 16mpg. Mostly country road driving mixed with a little city. Tried nursing her up to speed but noticed I was accelerating most of the road and then braking for a stop sign, I was at about 14. Found if I accelerated faster, 2-3 rpms and get her to up to optimum speed range longer, my miles increased. Not saying petal to the metal, but get to cruise dates than grandma would. Helped me.

My 2016 Sport 2wd with the 5.7 Hemi and 3.21 rear gets 17.5 on the Interstate on cruise control and in town 10-12. It only has 16,000 miles on it and this mpg seems quite low compared to the trucks of others on this site. Two different dealerships told me something was wrong but when they ran the diagnostic program on it they couldn't find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Topped it off at 50.5 miles took 1.978 gallons pretty accurate with the screen off by a little. By hand is 25.5. Granted little fuel was used and there could be a lot of air in there that kicked off the pump
