New Cummins gas engine in the works, have to imagine it will end up in new Ram trucks.

This is a problem waiting to happen. Could you imagine being a gynecologist for 40 years and just be like hey, going to try my hand at being a urologist. A “practicing” profession means a lot.
The piston design will change depending on fuel type. The main goal of the various fuel trims is efficiency but it's an uphill battle as diesel has about 15% more power density per gallon than gasoline.Cummins has said that the various versions are the same from the cylinder head down.
I understand that, but the shortblock weight will be the same, was my point. Even if they put an aluminum head on it, which I doubt, it will still probably weight nearly double what a Ferd Godzilla does. The piston design will change depending on fuel type. Yep. There has to be diminishing returns on re-re-re-engineering gasoline engines. And since a gallon of diesel has more energy than gasoline the gasoline engine has to be MORE efficient than a comparable diesel. There are physical laws here folks. You don’t get more energy out than what’s in the fuel. Talk about an engineering challenge. If gas has 15% less energy than diesel then that Gas engine needs to be at least 15% more efficient. I just don’t believe it can be done reliably at a reasonable cost. The piston design will change depending on fuel type. Why are so many hung up on HP numbers when it has one heck of a lot more Torque then a Hemi, hp is good for racing & going fast stop lite to stop lite TQ is what gets the work done...Don't expect this in a Ram. It's designed for medium duty trucks. Think box trucks, big chassis cabs like tow trucks, etc.
No one would buy this in a Ram 2500/3500 being down on HP and weighing as much as the diesel.
Torque is your ability to move weight, HP is the ability to pick up speed. So, yeah, that's great, you can now tow 18,000 lbs, but it's going to take you 2 miles to reach 60 MPH.Why are so many hung up on HP numbers when it has one heck of a lot more Torque then a Hemi, hp is good for racing & going fast stop lite to stop lite TQ is what gets the work done...
