This is a problem waiting to happen. Could you imagine being a gynecologist for 40 years and just be like hey, going to try my hand at being a urologist. A “practicing” profession means a lot.

Cummins hasn't just built diesels. They have experience with CNG and LNG IIRC, right @HEMIMANN ?

Kind of making my point. Non of the fuel types are standard production. I’m sure they know what they are doing but for mass production gas engines, I will not be an early adopter.

Unless that Octane engine has undergone a good weight loss, doubt you'll see the engines in the 2500/3500 trucks. It's possible for the chassis cabs trucks as the Octane is intended as medium duty truck engine.
Cummins has been working on a fuel agnostic engine platform for several years now, the B6.7 platform is supposed to have several different fuel systems.

Cummins has said that the various versions are the same from the cylinder head down. That makes this too heavy to be practical in a pickup, especially since Ram is already payload deficient in many cases. Heck even comparing the diesels the Cummins is substantially heavier than the Stroke or Dmax.

The piston design will change depending on fuel type. The main goal of the various fuel trims is efficiency but it's an uphill battle as diesel has about 15% more power density per gallon than gasoline.

I understand that, but the shortblock weight will be the same, was my point. Even if they put an aluminum head on it, which I doubt, it will still probably weight nearly double what a Ferd Godzilla does.

Agreed, it's probably not going in the 2500/3500s as a base engine anyway. It's also down on HP vs the current hemi.

Utility company trucks that idle a lot, Isuzu cabover mediums, Freightliner M2, Mack MD are all good candidates for it. They could also put the gas pusher motorhome market on its ear, especially if Freightliner gets on board, as the Ferd gasser mororhome chassis sucks.

I’d like to see a multi fuel engine from anyone. Like we had 100 yrs ago. Run gas, diesel, kerosene . Whatever burns just fill it up. You know since were so advanced now!.

Much of what has learned with diesel engine performance can be utilized in gas engines. Turbos and intercoollers are good examples. A Cummins gas engine could be built heavier than conventional gas engines adding to their longevity.

The military has used a muti-fuel engine since the late 1950's. Anyone remember the 2 1/2-ton M35series?

Yep. There has to be diminishing returns on re-re-re-engineering gasoline engines. And since a gallon of diesel has more energy than gasoline the gasoline engine has to be MORE efficient than a comparable diesel. There are physical laws here folks. You don’t get more energy out than what’s in the fuel. Talk about an engineering challenge. If gas has 15% less energy than diesel then that Gas engine needs to be at least 15% more efficient. I just don’t believe it can be done reliably at a reasonable cost.

Don't expect this in a Ram. It's designed for medium duty trucks. Think box trucks, big chassis cabs like tow trucks, etc.

No one would buy this in a Ram 2500/3500 being down on HP and weighing as much as the diesel.

Why are so many hung up on HP numbers when it has one heck of a lot more Torque then a Hemi, hp is good for racing & going fast stop lite to stop lite TQ is what gets the work done...

Torque is your ability to move weight, HP is the ability to pick up speed. So, yeah, that's great, you can now tow 18,000 lbs, but it's going to take you 2 miles to reach 60 MPH.
