started putiing in my gears today, disassembly went smoothly, everything is out, bearings been pressed onto the new pinion, i can't get the pinion tight enough, has too much play. do i need a bigger impact then a 650 ftlb to crush the crush sleeve?

has anyone out there made an adjuster tool for the carrier adjuster nuts?

I haven't heard of any tools to adjust the nuts. As for the crush sleeve I would think that 650 ft lbs would be plenty but I may be wrong.

Here is some information from Richmond Gear. Not sure if they are going to be of any help.

Sorry Man, Other than Tony, can't offer any real help either! I know I used a 3/4 Inch Power Bar will 4 foot pipe to get my Pinion Nut off in the driveway once doing the seal so there is alot of Torque there. Assuming your planning for this Job covered all the Tooling/Etc requirements then this should just be a minor Problem in the Procedure. Hopefully someone can chime in to get you the answer. Hope it works out smoothly, keep us posted.

as usual i'm in over my head :suicide:

the adjuster nuts are adjusted with a tool through the end of the axle tubes, i had seen somwhere that people were welding a large nut to a pipe to make a adjuster tool....

Guess that would work. I never heard anyone having issues while installing gears. So kind of new territory.

I'm not doing the gear install myself, so I'm no help, and I haven't heard of anyone else doing it themselves either yet.
