Does anybody have a DIY for swapping to 4.56s and adding a powertrax? I don't wanna pay 400 for the install, but it's got me a little nervous thinking about doing it myself.

What do I need to get the job done?

I'm not the least bit mechanically inclined so I wouldn't touch the project with a 10ft pole, however I know some people who do this and say it can be quite a task at times

Theres a lot of tolerances that need to be held, the powertrax makes it even more complicated

I've heard the powertrax makes it easier because It sits in the open carrier or something of that nature.. Pretty much no special tools are needed to get it lined up like you would on a regular LSD

If they are not lashed right you will get howl or chattering. A shop should warranty their work, so if they install your gears and they have an issue the shop has to eat fixing them.

The pinion gear(comes in from the front) has a bearing that needs to be installed with a press. Between the bearing and pinion is a shim. the size shim determines how deep the gear sits in the case to align with the main gear. The main gear also has shims to determine how it sits left or right. If not shimmed properly, the gears will bite to much and howl and wear prematurely, or be too loose and clunk and wear prematurely.

I would not take on this job myself having not done gears before. Setting up gears is almost an art

I'll work on almost anything when it comes to my truck. But when it comes to diffs and transmissions, I let professionals do that...
