Anybody changed differential gears in a 20' 2500? From what I've gathered I have an AAM 9.25" front and AAM 11.5" rear. Im having a hard time finding ring and pinion sets online to get an idea of pricing.

I'm thinking 5.13 be the ideal ratio for 37's, high altitude mountain roads, with light to mid range towing. Opinions? Thanks.

Mine is a '16, not sure if the diffs had any changes, definitely need to determine first, but if they are the same I paid $2700 for parts and labor at Colorado Axle and Gear in Denver. I went with 5.13 and drove that on 35s for over a yr and loved it. The goal was 37s so I hesitated sizing up when I got done smoking my 35s into 33s. lol

The ring and pinion information was not easy to come by, one reason is the front diff uses a gear for both a GM front 9.25 and the Ram 9.25. Box was labeled for GM. I have the part numbers that were used on my '16.

I've seen some guys pay $1500 for both diffs, parts a labor but that was very limited shops in CA and TX. I've also seen over $ 3000 posted by some.

With 37s and in CO I am happy I went to the 5.13, I started at 4.88 but Al, owner of shop, called and told me AAM in 5.13 but not 4.88, not a huge rpm difference but here at 7000ft those small differences can have an impact. Your 8-speed is geared lower than my 6-speed through a lot of the tranny gears but I would go as far as saying my 1st through 4th could stand to be lower, doesn't need it but wouldn't hurt it any either. My truck still handles the 85mph I-25 traffic and kicks booty up I-70, cars or trucks. MPG went up with the 35s but the 37s made short work of taking that away, but I'd say the truck is geared inside the perfect range.

Exactly what I was looking for. I dont do gears and would have my mechanic confirm before any purchase was made. I was surprised how long it took me to find anything other than factory ratio options. I've only had gears done on a Jeep but sounds like I'm in the same price range.

I'm torn between 35's and 37's really want 37's but not willing to take that step without a gear change.. and wheels. Cost difference between options is pretty big.

I see your in Larkspur. I'm in the Springs. Small world! Excellent info but between traffic and construction I dont believe you've hit 80 on I-25 in years [emoji16]. I had to go to WY to pick up some equipment a few weeks ago. For the first time in my life I was dreading driving back into CO.. First road trip in my first Ram made it tolerable though. Love this truck!

Thanks you. Much appreciated!

Small world it is. When I go to WY I deflate and relax at the state line like its a force of nature, and I to dread reentry because its just the opposite. My Ram made it doable for me as well, 3 yrs every week up and back to Laramie, snow, rain, slush or shine the only thing that slowed me down was picking the wrong time to travel, finally just commuted at 1am.

The way traffic moves through the gap construction project one would think it was posted 75mph not 60. I merge at 68mph and if I don't get run over in the first 500ft I hit the throttle and go left lane. 80 allows me to stay there for a mile or two but I usually have to get right again because I draw the line at 20 over in a construction project. But North of the gap it's 88mph to the city (with slowdowns for the occasional righty being a lefty) :)

5.13, 8-speed with 37s if/when you do it I would really like to hear your followup analysis. I think it sounds extremely exciting.

If your truck has the hemi, I would definitely recommend the 5.13’s when going 37’s.

Can't believe I left that part out. Yes 6.4 Hemi. Tradesman/Power Wagon.

Do you guys carry a full size spare? Can the stock 32" spare be run with a 37" on the front axle in 2WD for any period of time without causing damage?

Stopped by 4WheelParts yesterday to get a rough idea of cost and they couldn't confirm axles. All gear distributor sites only list up to 2018. Was told it's probably the same but no confirmation. Called the parts department at 2 different Ram dealerships. They have no idea. One of them told me "It has 4.10 gears and lockers.. They're probably some form of a Dana 60" o_O Contacted a gear manufacture that is looking into it but I haven't heard back yet. Got a quote from 4WP of $7800 for 4 wheels & tires, TPMS, gears, and a programmer. Ouch.. I may settle for 35's but I'm now determined to find out what axles I have. Coming from the ease and abundance of upgrade options in the Jeep world this new Ram is mind boggling.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe you currently have 4.10 gears

Here is a good gear calculator you can plug your info in and see where the different gear options are going to put you RPM and speed wise etc.

http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

Love the look of 37's but even with gearing I'm not sure I would run them on a gas truck if it's a daily driver? I think that would get old pretty quick. Even on my cummins with all the torque I've decided to just stick with 35's. Doesn't look as nice but I think it's a good compromise in performance, mpg etc

Former PW owner that lived in Black Forest for 10 years...... (left CO a couple years ago)

I was able to confirm through Revolution Gear it is a Chrysler 9.25" front and 11.5" rear. Axles are manufactured by AAM. I was told that no one currently makes a 5.13 for this rear end. Sounds like the lowest I can go is 4.88.

My commute to work is only about 2 miles with some misc running around town throughout the week. MPG's aren't a major concern but they're already shockingly low. We have some property in the mountains with a long steep rutted out dirt driveway that gets pretty nasty with minimal moisture. Pulling a trailer or a water tank up that road in the snow will likely be the toughest test I put it to. 37's would be purely cosmetic and the more I think about it the harder it gets to justify the cost for my intended use. I will likely just go to 35's and keep the stock 4.10 gears. Might run the 32" Duratrac's through the winter and make a decision in the spring. Trying to work on my bad habit of impulse purchases..

I appreciate everyone's input. Thanks!

That’s what I plan to do, 35’s with my stock 4.10 gears. I live in flat Florida, so it won’t hinder me pulling my 7000 pound dry weight travel trailer
