how do i find out what gears im running

mine is stamped on the back axle, crawl under there and look, should ne right around the diff. if not, the sticker in the glove box says it to

You can get an entire build sheet from a local dealer with your vin, or there is a website that you can get one from as well, I just cannot remember what it is right now.

You can also look in you glovebox. There should be a tag in there that says the ratio. If not there, look on the rear axle, I think on the passenger side close to the brakes, there might be a tag there. If you have a 4x4, the front diff cover will also state the ratio.

If all else fails jack the rear up and turn the drive shaft and count how Many times it goes around to one wheel revolution

Yep the gears are the same front and back because if there diff you will break stuff all to hell. Im guessing youhave 3.55s due to the year, rim and motor but could be wrong lol.

You will have to do both the front and the back, and its not going to be cheap!

To get all of the parts and pay someone to install 4.56 gears as well as upgrade to a good LSD like a DTT or Auburn will be about $2k.

That's about right, the price I got quoted was $1950.

You will not find a parts truck with 4.56s, they did not come from the factory. 1500s only had 3.55 or 3.92s from the factory. Plus you need front and rear diffs so that is why they are so expensive. Parts will be about 1k and labor the other 1k.

Dude its so worth it. Now that I think of it my truck was such a bag of **** with 3.73's. What a ****. Now its certainly passable and will hold OD on the highway no problem. Towing still blows.

Clay,
A gear change and differiential upgrade is the single best upgrade you can do for your truck. But our trucks are older models and it is unlikely we will ever get the actual cost of the mods back out of them when they are sold. So keep in mind there is no profit in doing it. So figure out what you want your truck to do for you at the end of the day and stick with a plan. That's my 2 cents.. Good luck...
