Good Morning folks,

So I'm trading my 2017 1500 LH 4x4 in on a 07 3500 4x4 SRW CC long bed SLT with a 5.9 and a 6-speed. Truck has 170k on the clock and has never been modified beyond a leveling kit and a goose neck. it was a difficult decision because I just spent like 4k in upgrades (see signature) for this thing and I really love my 2017. However, I think the longevity and reliability of the 5.9 and the manual will be better as time goes on, and I don't have to worry about what I hook up to lol. I also believe the value will hold better in this rig regardless of miles in comparison to the 1500s. I'm getting the 07 for 15k after my equity in the 17. Picking it up tomorrow in Ft. Worth, TX.

So with that said, are there any issues that are common with these? Dealer replaced the Batteries, tires, and drivers seat. They said they had a CEL for low voltage but it went away and hasn't come back. I do know that battery cable corrosion was an issue, as was the jumper cable between batteries that would throw that light. Regardless, anything I should check out tomorrow?

Also, where was the build sheet for these? is it on the glove box door? I'm curious if it has 3.73 gears or 4.10 gears. I know 1 tons usually have at least 3.73, or my dually did in 2012, but with this being a manual and a SWR I didn't know if that changed things. I know there for a while 3.21 gears were pretty standard in the HD trucks. More curious about this from a MPG stand point than anything or if ill have to add 3.73s later lol.

Thanks y'all, I'm excited to be back on the Cummins team lol

I think the standard was 3.42.

Here's a link to check the build sheet, just need the VIN. https://fcacommunity.force.com/RAM/s/equipment-listing

Can't help you on what needs to be watched for, but you got one of the last 5.9s before before 6.7 took over... good score, especially with the manual. Just watch out for regular wear and tear items due to an assumed amount of decent towing the truck did since it has a gooseneck.

Thanks @usaf2006, So I was doing some homework on it and I couldn't find the build sheet just the vin look ups. Thanks for that link! I also stumbled across the original and only other owners information. The guy was 65 when he bought the truck new in Kansas, his occupation was also listed as "farmer". lol so I literally found an old farm truck. I assume he hauled cattle/livestock or hay, but it looks in really good shape. So ill see tomorrow. I'm glad it was an older guy that bought it as its far less likely to have been abused or "ridden hard and put up wet."

So after looking up the build sheet, looks like it came with 3.73 gears and a locking diff. So thats good to know. Was there a regular and an HO 5.9? Build sheet says "5.9 I6 HO Cummins TD Engine" i know they had an HO in the 4th gen and the current gen.

thanks,

Matt

Yeah I've heard of the HO 5.9. Haven't heard about any cons regarding it. Sounds like you got one hell of a deal!!! Congrats man.

Can't wait to hear about your first impressions.
