Hey guys, just a little heads up about the warranty decrease that will be happening soon. FCA released a statement that almost all 2016 model vehicles, whether it be dodge, jeep, ram, chrysler; will now only have a 5 year 60,000 mile powertrain warranty vs the current 5/100k.

The only exception is diesels, they will keep the 5/100k powertrain warranty

Makes sense.. as long as I can remember now powertrain warranty in Canada has been 5yr/100k kms.. which is 60k miles.

LOL!

GM came out with a similar announcement earlier this year and EVERYONE was giving them a hard time!!!

So, is it 'no big deal' when FCA does the same????

LOL!!!!

that was one of the things that made a lot of people go to ram. Pretty dumb decision. Its not like most of us on here worry about warranties though, I know i don't lol

Yep. 100k on the powertrain. My dealer also threw in a lifetime powertrain warranty as well.

Damn lol! Must have been nice! Oh well I usually don't keep my trucks past 100,000 kms (60k miles) so it wouldn't have benefitted me anyway lol.

Yuup, this is why i just bought my 15 instead of a 16 ram as the only thing that really changed was the warranty & it wasn't for the better so i took a discounted 15 winner winner chicken dinner.

Warranties and their length have always been a marketing tool. Generally high warranty coverage periods are either to generate sales and/or make up for a perception of a lack of quality. The Korean brands pretty much brought out the 100K warranties to get past their quality perception issues and other brands had followed.

With record truck sales and lower gas prices, they can throttle back on the coverage. Still a good deal since I can remember the dark days of 12/12K for domestic warranties.

I just bought a 2015 Chrysler 300S to go along with my 1500, and got lifetime powertrain warranty on it at no cost!

smh.. thats the dumbest thing they could of done. RAM had an edge on Ford with this.. Now everyones going to say the HEMI sucks cause they had to lower the warranty cause of too many replaced motors or something. I think Fiat's time is done, they need to stop screwing with Chrysler.. You know this is the handy work of the Italians..

Actually, they're just following what the other brands are doing. They'll be spending so much on recalls that this savings will most likely help.

I really don't care about powertrain warranties personally.

I've yet to personally see a vehicle have a powertrain failure before 100,000 miles when properly taken care of. I'm talking about every vehicle my family has ever owned, every one I've owned, and all the others that I've worked on.

I know it happens occasionally, and those are usually just freak accidents. Sometimes it's a design flaw though, like with my Corvette. The LS7 has some weird geometry in the valvetrain and combined with some manufacturing defects, there were some motors that grenaded. But I knew that before I got my vette.

I also knew this Hemi was a good, long lasting motor before I bought my truck, and I knew the eight speed was a vastly improved transmission. The axle has never been a question. The only bad part is the driveshaft popping, but that only happens at really high speeds from what I've seen.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly why they did it as mine was knocking with less then 1,400 miles on it & i'm pretty sure it is a pos engine, but hopefully i'm wrong.

Loving my lifetime Maxcare bumper to bumper warranty.

Like someone said - pretty rare a powertrain fails. It's MUCH more likely to be some $1900 "sending unit relay sensor solenoid." Vehicles are complex these days... almost more computer than mechanical. Warranties on mechanical items are almost a joke since manufacturers can just fill in the fine print to not cover electronics and then claim that's what caused the failure. Ram in particular is lame at warranty coverage compared to vehicles of other brands that I've owned.

For what its worth my motor has 16k on it and it needs to be replaced.. Talking to the service people they said this is the second motor they have had to replace all year. I'd say that's a pretty good idea that these motors don't fail very often. As for the 8HP70 - I ain't worried about that thing, it will outlast the truck..

But just for helping me sleep better at night I did get an extended bumper to bumper 6/100k. It was either that or pay 3500 for a lifetime. If I had the cash I would of done it as I plan on keeping this truck until the wheels fall off..

It's only because ya'll pronounce your "O's" in a funny way, eh?

Never did get that. How does a American pronounce the letter O while talking?
It's OH or AH or wtf?
I spent many years trucking in the states and never heard it sound different. But an American could pick it up.

The 100,000 warranty was the main reason I choose the Ram 2500 over the F250. I did however also like the styling of my Ram better
