I’m scheduled to have my 2018 2500 deleted this week. The shop I’m taking it to uses a 70hp tune as their standard offering. I’m honestly not really worried about more power, I’m really after better mileage and longevity. I’m curious as to what others have experienced after deleting and if you’re still pleased with your decision.

I envy you!
I am in the same mind set: Not looking to add any more HP/TQ - but only maybe a mild towing tune.

At any one point the DEF or EGR systems fail & leave us stranded, the both systems will be totally deleted!

I have enough common sense to know/understand my 68RFE can't handle much more then what the stock configuration produces in HP/TQ.
The mild towing tune is all I will desire/need!

Keep us up to date with your positive results.

I'm not deleted (and have no plans because of warranty and transmission concerns) But, from everything I have read over the years on the diesel forums, guys in the late model DEF trucks aren't seeing much if any increase in mpg by deleting. Power, yes, but not noticeable mpg gains. I think the early pre DEF truck benefited much more in the mpg gains with a tune.

As far a longevity? I think that's a crap shoot. While the emissions are gone you stand a much higher chance of killing the transmission with increased HP.

Let us know how it turns out.

Agreed. If longevity is your concern, a stock power level tune to handle the deletes and maybe firm up the shifts is your best bet.

I am still enjoying my deleted truck. I was sorta backed into a corner by dealers who couldn't fix the problem and I was tired of being stranded by the side of the road with no warning driving a brand new truck.

I was also concerned about transmission longevity and after consulting with quite a few folks on a Ram diesel specific forum, going through some research on the transmission failure modes and root causes, talking with a couple of transmission shops who have rebuilt the units, and talking with the local diesel performance shop I felt I had a pretty good plan.

MPG gains have been modest. Running at 65 on the freeway unloaded I got almost 2MPG. Around town no change at all.

I also knew I was blowing my warranty to heck if I deleted and I factored that into my decision.

I have not had one CEL, I have not been stranded again and my truck is running great. I'm glad I did it.

Best thing I ever did to my CTD, but it was a ‘10, no SCR to deal with, just EGR and DPF.

Picked up an honest 3 mpg across the board handcalculated. Ran a very clean 100 hp tune, was an absolute blast to drive. The trans will hold fine as long as you don’t do WOT downshifts. From a dead stop, gears 1-4 are pretty damn strong.

REALLY miss that truck...........

Guys up here say they got deletes to gain reliability and say it was worth it and one just said it was cheaper than replacing his def heater again after the warranty expired. As long as they don't start doing emissions testing or they try to sell it out of country or province so an inspection is required then they'll run into problems.had a few ctd crew trucks towed back to town with emiisions related failures. Not sure if anything has changed in the last couple years since they stopped renting the rams and went to ford.

Thanks for the feedback gents. I tend to baby my trucks so I won’t be beating on the transmission. Fortunately we don’t have emissions testing here, not that I plan on driving anywhere but off road once it’s deleted.
