I remember reading about this last year.

But I can't remember the reason why. Is it because the black adsorbs the heat and gets too hot?

Well, it's black, it's not reflective, and it's paint. That means that you're going to have the maximum amount of heat and on a material that's not well suited to handle it. It happens with other colors too.

If you shine a bright light into the top/front of the projector you should be able to see how it focuses an intense beam on the area. My 300 does the same thing, so I'm going to leave that area alone when I paint them.
