Got a Magnaflow 18 installed today.

Lordy lads, How the hell do you guys get such a cheap price on your muffler installs? I was thinking $200 tops, little place near me which is rated well charged me $280 out the door, and believe me I dont live in Beverly Hills, CA.

Just out of interest any welders in the house? After I got home I noticed clear oily residue around the floor pan area above the muffler on frame of vehicle / bed or cab floor. Is this some sort of flux core he used or is it something else? Smelled a bit like parrafin or oil or something. Was wiping the ****** down and burned my wrist, thought perhaps it may corrode the floorpan paint on truck.

I got the 18" 12278 installed. Sounds ok.

The Custom Exhaust shop that installed mine only charged $75! He actually let me feel for exhaust leaks after he was done welding... while the truck was on the lift... His welds looked so dam good...

The 2 outlets he had to add about 12" of new SS pipe on both sides... Only 1 small bend in the passenger side tube before joining with the 2 stock pipes out the back...

I feel I received great service at a Remarkable Low Price!! Took him about 30min...

Like you--->I think the Finished Result sounds Ok! It's by no means that-->Holy Chit! {Factor}... But it does put that Smile on my face when I slowly open her up on the interstate...

I am only being some what of a Smart A$$ when I say the {Cheap Imitation {Knock Off}!! My honest opinion after holding both Magnaflow and Jones in my hands and examining both-->The Jones is every bit as well built in quality as the Magnaflow... As for Imitation? I would agree! Magnaflow & Flowmaster both have outstanding reputations! The Jones is just almost 1/2 the Price... For hard working folks on a budget! The Jones Muffler is a He!! of a Deal!!

I don't know how much this test actually plays into real life performance? But the Jones does show better flow...

More power to you, I dont know anyone and just had to go with somewhere local that was given good reviews ( not that they mean much these days ). I would have done the same as you if I knew someone to weld for me. I didnt even know they made knock offs. So much for my ebay searching skillzzz. LOL

Happen to know what that oily **** was all over floor area above the muffler after install?

To be honest! I didn't know any of these workers in this business... This Shop was in the city where my son goes to college... He asked around with his truck club friends and they recommend this shop...

I drove 2 1/2 hours to visit my son and had it done while i visited him over the weekend...The owner and shop workers treated me like I was their best customer...

This was the same shop that 2 weeks before installed my sons Carven Muffler and only charged him $45...

Limey: I by NO means am trying to poke fun at you for having to pay so much for install... That is not my intention... I was only pointing out how Lucky I was finding a Very Honest Shop that didn't try to make all their days profit from 1 customer... Which Explains why this Shop is So Busy!!

I paid 175 total for the muffler and welded install. I didn't know the guy just went to a small local exhaust shop.

I never took it as you poking fun at me . If anything I was poking fun at myself by posting this thread. I know the feeling, when you do find a specialist for a particular trade then they are keepers. Issue is, for me anyways, I spend countless amount of monies and time, then when I do find my own set of tradesmen or people -not just mechanics, I go an move away to another country and start from scratch being middle aged HAHA. Good Lord, what a mess

I am a welder. I would guess they used Anti Spatter so the sparks didn't stick to your truck. Non Corrosive. But cleaning it off so dirt doesn't stick is good.

I had a knock off version of that Magnaflow, Jones MaxFlow #2278 installed on my truck. Sounds real good, happy with it. $70.00 to install. I bought at Amazon for $35. I love turning truck on in the mornings, nice mellow sound.

Damn.. I paid 110-120 bucks to get my 22" installed.. They made up the difference with their SS pipe and used a stethoscope to check for exhaust leaks, spent like 20 min lining up my tail pipes, did a good job..

Sounds like you need to get yourself some lube for that screwing your getting

I did the cat back system from Magnaflow a couple weeks ago, sounds amazing and definitely added a bit of power. Came off easy and went on easy, 30-40 minutes.

Muffler and exhaust is basically for more sound. There is no real power gain by it. Actually some hurt the low end.

Interesting, well could be in my head because like I said only seemed like a bit, but the intake absolutely did something.
