Hello. Pulled into a gas station yesterday and all gas pumps showed "10 per cent ethanol." Needed fuel so put in 15 gallons 89, got me wondering what the rules state regarding ethanol? As a rule I always run mid grade. 2018 6.4 4X4 with 4.10 gears. Thanks

David

Here in Oregon they go 10% ethanol during the winter and my MPGs drop by about 10%. Pretty lame and not sure why they do it. I recently read on a message board (may have been here) from a guy who had 30+ years in the fuel industry. He said as best he can tell, the only reason the ethanol is used is to keep corn farmers in business.

It may burn 10% cleaner or whatever but if you need 10% more of it to go the same distance.... well, sounds like something our government would get behind :emotions122:

It's not to keep the farmers in business but it is a government thing! There was already enough things made from corn to keep the farmers busy. In fact that is why they had to genetically modify corn to produce more per acre so there was enough corn to satisfy food needs & ethanol. I am not a ethanol hater but from what I hear it is supposed to burn cleaner but the extra diesel it takes to produce it kind of counter acts it's benefits. And as you said it also takes more of it to produce the same amount of energy as regular gas.
Doesn't matter anyway... AOC will have us eating veggie burgers & in horse & buggies to get around, within the next 15 years. :Insane:

I always ran the cheapest gas there is which is always 87 where I live in my gasser, and never had a problem. Paying the extra $ for mid-grade or higher is just a waste of money. I believe all gasoline everywhere contains 10-15 percent ethanol.
