Im no mechanic but could they have damaged a abs sensor trying to remove the axel?

x2. I would bring it back to the dealer, and tell them to fix it at their cost. You didn't have the codes before, and they were they last ones to touch it.

They've got you by the balls man! Smack them off and go elsewhere next time. There's got to be a good shop that can do it for that type of work for less right?

It's also less painful if you fix the things as they break instead of all at once! ;)

Inspections are an evil thing, but I think they have their place. I see 20 year old vehicles driving around that absolutely shouldn't be. The safety of the people around you is more important than the safety of the person driving the vehicle IMO.

I live in IA. We have NO inspections. We have a tint law though. Sure we can legally carry a concealed weapon, but I can't tint my windows... (my windows are tinted and yes, it's an 86 dollar fine) ;)

Update: I think I'm finally set. So since my last update I had paid $931 to have a bunch of stuff fixed and then told to drive 50-100 miles to clear the code from the new charcoal canister. Well at mile 100 the light comes back on. Take it back to the dealer and now they tell me that I have a vacuum harness that leads from the canister to the engine that has been burned through (mechanic admitted he never looked at the harness when he suggested the canister was bad.) So who knows if it was the harness all this time. So anyway due to holiday shipping issues it took 10 days to arrive. Meanwhile my exhaust rusted through and split from the pipe. Now I had to order a new system and get that put on. Got my Dynomax system on Thursday and installed on Friday. Now I have to drive another 50-100 milestone see if the light stays off. So total invested in this inspection now tops $1500 and I still have to fix my ABS sensor which I can do myself and doesn't affect the inspection. So I night the truck 13 months ago for $5600, I put a $3000 plow on it and have now spent $4000 in service repairs with another $1k coming because of A/C system. Needless to say I'm invested way over current value of the truck. I guess ill drive it until it dies.

just wondering, was it the original exhaust or was it an aftermarket system?? if it was factory than it shouldn't have rusted out...its stainless steel.

No the previous owner changed the exhaust and did a bad job. It was hanging from hangers and not the original locations. The muffler was a very rusted out flowmaster that was short and really loud. It was clamped on and that's where the pipe rusted and split completely through. Now I have a magnaflow Y pipe with highflow cats into this dynomax cat back system. The tip is welded on right now with the rest clamped on which I will fix and get welded very soon.

I was going to warn you about the leak canister. First, part is $50 dollars and take about 1 minute to remove and reinstall the new one. Secondly, my problem was also the wiring. That took about 5 minutes of my time to repair the rubbed through area by soldering clean sections back together and shrink tubing.

Sorry this was such a pain for you.
