Just remember new trucks cost twice as much because you buy it then the wife says if you get a new vehicle, I get one too:boobs:

As far as new design, the engine & trans is the same (assuming you don't get the hybrid option) so the only drivetrain difference is the locking diff. The other main upgrade is the new 12" screen radio / control center. The other stuff is mostly cosmetic.

If you want to get a new truck, then follow your heart. If you want a LOGICAL approach, then keep what you have for another 5 years. You put no mileage on it and the Maxcare is good for another period anyway. Vehicle purchases are 99% emotional and we all know it, no matter how many different ways we try to justify the idea! This old guy has owned three trucks in the last 25 years each for 12-13 years prior to buying my CPO '14 last summer. In the course of ownership I have put less than 80K on the first two in the time period of ownership and I bought my current truck with the midget that the lifetime Maxcare warranty I paid for my tail is covered until it is literally covered in dirt! Plus the truck is in both our names as is the warranty so even after I kick, my wife can torment the roadways knowing that whatever goes wrong will have a warranty!

Good luck with your decision and enjoy the new truck that i know you will wind up buying.

For someone who puts so few miles on a vehicle, that’s a great plan. My dad bought a new truck in 86, and didn’t buy another one till 99. The f150 he bought in 99 had 85k miles on it when he passed away in 2016.

But for some of us, 80k miles is only a few years. The longest I’ve owned a new vehicle was a little over 3 years. In that time, I put 75k miles on it. I bought my ram in July 2017 and I’ve put close to 15k on it already.

I don’t get the “buy it and don’t drive it” crowd. The only reason I’m spending the money I am on a vehicle is so I CAN drive it.

getting the itch sucks....i get it way too much lol

Honestly since you have a 2015 you are not going to be getting what feels like an upgrade except for having 4x4 and possibly a sunroof if you get a 2017 or 2018. On the high end 2018's and maybe just the limited you can get the radio with apple car play and android auto but is that worth new payments for what would feel like the same truck you have now?

Just saying if you get a 2017 or 2018 the itch might come back a lot faster than you think. If you like the 5th gen design it might be better to wait a year and get a 2020

This could be true as I'd be getting basically the same truck in a nicer trim........Probably the determining factor will be how good of a deal they're willing to offer. I found a 2017 Laramie for 15K off, but I don't want the Ram Boxes or the air ride. A dealer south of me in Alabama has 3 Laramie's equipped just the way I want, but only has $12,500 off of each. Considering the resale on these (not great), and that 2018's are near $11,000 off already, they'd have to do better than that on a truck that is soon to be 2 years old. I'd prefer a 2017 as the 2018 Laramie's don't come standard with the Alpine--a $495 option! I just detailed mine-I love it more already.........

IMO you won’t go wrong with a 2018 2500 HD 4x4 and for nearly the same price as a 1500 4x4

I agree with you as far as it goes. However I also have two other vehicles that serve their own distinctive purposes and at least until I retired last year, my driving distances just weren't that far for a number of reasons, one being living on Long Island means that 30 miles can take an hour to cover!. Now that i'm retired in the Berkshires I find my mileage climbing even when averaged across the three drives I have at my disposal.

Plus the OP admitted not having driven much so far anyway. 25K in 5 years surely isn't much at all!

QC and CC 5th gens are 4" longer than 4th gens, so turning radius and ability to park in garages will be adversely affected. I will be keeping my 4th gen for these reasons.

I also have zero interest in the new hybrid system.

Some of this "getting the kinks worked out" thing is a bit overblown IMO. Sure, some brands/models have had first year problems but it's not as if they are all just plagued and should be avoided. I have one of the first 6.4 Hemi 2500s and it's been great. And, more statistically relevant, there have really been no large scale or widespread problems with these trucks as a whole.

I agree. My old 2010 leaked through the rear window and my 2015 leaked in the same spot, definitely didn't work that one out! If you go 2017-18 I'd try to find one without the huge "RAM" on the tailgate and a OG crosshair grill.

If I can find a super clean Certified, I'd do it. Been looking.

I'd definitely be getting a new truck. I can send you a shirt and pants made of fiberglass insulation if you need some more motivation!

Well it looks like I wait......dealers are just not making it worth my while to jump. Either a low trade offer or a bunch of overpriced tack ons (tint, bug shield, protection package) to dissuade me from moving at this time. Hell, with only 24,500 miles in almost 3 years, this truck should definitely last a lot longer. I left it open at two dealers, if they're willing to come down a bit.

ya definitely decide what you want for trade in and dont budge on that number, if they want to make the deal they will come up. you may have to wait closer to the end of feb when they are trying to hit sales quotas. i started my search beginning of jan and had about 5 dealers fighting over my business. ended up getting a big horn with a msrp of 46k for a flat 30k plus 2 years of oil changes and rust protection/undercoating for free tacked on. To make it even sweeter my credit union is paying my first months payment so cant complain about that.

pick the truck you want and then give that vin number to different dealers that way you are getting prices that are apples to apples. i wish i had a truck to trade in but didnt even ask what they would give me for my 99 cause it probably would have been kelly blue book for a stock truck lol
