I recently had the dealership install a OEM tailgate camera and am wondering if there is a way to turn the guidelines on? I have one of the narrowest driveways to back into and also frequently pull a trailer, so the guidelines would be nice to have functioning.

I also am wondering if there is a way to aim the camera at all? Due to having the truck lifted the camera is basically only showing about 1-2 feet behind the tailgate.

I'm sure both these questions have been asked before, but when I did the search and a google search I didn't see anything pop up. It's very possible it's answered in the sticky thread but I gave up after reading through 19 of the 50 something pages.

The guidelines come from a connection made at the BCM. It's under the steering wheel area of you get down there and look it's in the upper left firewall area.

The OEM camera is built into the tailgate handle so there isn't any easy way to aim it. You could probably hack an aftermarket license bracket camera into the factory harness and you'd be able to aim it. Or look into the OEM cargo camera. It mounts on your high center stop light.

On the advice of my Father, I actually went to my Jeep Grand Cherokees manual since it has camera info and found the settings on the trucks head unit. I just was an idiot and never looked in the "safety" menu, so once I went to that I was able to turn them on from there without dealing with wiring or anything. It also actually made more show up on the screen, as if without the guidelines turned on it was focusing strictly on the bumper for some reason. Thanks for the help...I'm just glad it was my lack of scrolling through all the menu settings and not any of the connections.

And if you have a few spare weeks, you can read this crazy thread all about self-installing it

One of the members here had the same issue and I forgot his resolution, but its probably mentioned in that second link above.

The install thread is what I started reading before giving up after 17 pages...that is crazy for sure. I'm just glad my dealership did it extra cheap when I had them install the lift.

I tried to have my dealership install mine, and it was a horrible experience. The main problem was that I have an express and had swapped out the 8.4 nav radio. So they were balking that this would ever work with that head unit. They had my truck for 2.5 days and never got it to work. I ended up having to pay $250 labor and the hassle of getting around without my truck for nothing. I ordered the same kit they had and installed it myself in about 2 hours a few weekends later.

That's insane! There is no way I would have paid the $250 since they didn't really even do anything. That's a total bummer.

I'm thinking about swapping out my RA3 for a Kenwood head unit for sound quality purposes and also the bigger screen. I talked to the guy at the performance shop and he said it's no problem to get it to work. The only thing my dealer did was said they calibrated the speedo to the new tire size. I don't think it's accurate since when I'm going the speed limit I'm still passing people haha.

PS the only thing I'm thinking about doing with the backup camera is adding an LED light under the bumper that comes on only in reverse. With the lift I don't get as much light back there from the reverse lights so if it's dark, backing into my asphalt driveway is dang near impossible without lowering the window and sticking my head out.
