I'm about 8,000 miles in on my 2019 Rebel e-tourqe and I'm starting to get a little annoyed and want to know if this is just me and I need to take it in for service or if this is just the way it is.

I notice my truck decelerates with A LOT of engine brake. If I'm going down a hill or light slope it will hold the lower gear the whole way until I either stop or accelerate. It will never upshift on its own. In addition when stopping you can feel the transmission downshift hard occasionally causing the engine braking scenario. I actually feel myself being pulled forward at times from the downshift.

Anyone else?

That downshift clunk/surge is a product of all 8 speed HEMI engines. It usually occurs when the driver is braking too hard but not hard enough. Release a bit of pressure in your braking as you approach 2nd and then 1st as you’re stopping. This is my third 8 speed HEMI (2 chargers and the truck) since 2012. They’ve all done it and you get used to it.

Thanks for the info, was starting to wonder if something was wrong.

Something is wrong, Chrysler can’t stop it from happening which is annoying. But, I have learned how to make it not happen 99% of the time.

Do you run in tow/haul mode?

Doesn’t the e-torque also engage to charge the battery pack on downgrades and braking?

I’ve had my Bighorn (non e-torque) since Nov, the transmission is smooth on accel/decel. Under light throttle it does shift through the first 5 gears real fast (3.92 gears), but it’s smooth and I don’t notice or feel anything wierd. At slow decel, there does seem to be a little more engine braking than my other vehicles, but there is no clunking or surging.

So what is the secret?? It's making me crazy. I really don't like the surge/clunk when you first let off the brake after a stop.

Its funny I didn't realize how much the truck does this until I got my exhaust. It is very noticeable now (audibly) lol. It almost feels as if tow/haul is on.

The search bar works! My 2016 Lone Star (with 19k miles) does the same thing, I thought it was a timing issue. Glad to hear I'm not alone.
