My 5.7 hemi 4x4 calls for Edelbrock shorty header part #65692. Has anyone ever used #65792? The reason I ask is that there is a $200 difference in price.

I can not figure out what the difference would be between the two.

Isn't the rack and pinion in front of the cross member on a 2WD instead of behind it, like on a 4WD? That would place that little u-joint section in a different spot, seems they always prototype the 2WD first, so probably built a few thousand of them and had jigs all setup only to find out they had to move a primary to clear the steering shaft for the 4WD.

Looks like the 4WD models are being discontinued... Summit, Jegs and a few others are reporting "not available" or no longer even listed. Maybe one of the site sponsors could chime in.

I have noticed, the 03 models have a separate number because there is a difference with the Y pipe. The headers themselves are the same. Maybe this is the same case with the 4wd.

I believe the headers GMM and I are looking at don't need or include a y-pipe, right? So unless there is something in the way, like a different motor mount or the steering shaft being different, then I'd think they'd fit.

I don't know if this would help any, but I took a pic of the driver's side (camera backed up against the fan motor on the A/C condenser) looking at the steering shaft and motor mount:

You wouldn't wanna take the same pic on your 2wd would ya? :) Maybe someone with a 2004-2005 could also.

Why are you goping with the shorties? Is that all you can get away with in your area? My personal preference is the long tubes but if you cant do those next would be JBA's

Shorties require no cutting or welding, no cat removal, they cost half the price and provide 99% of the benefit, and they're smog legal. I don't understand why anyone would waste their time with lt's. Recently, a number of hemi truck track guys have been switching to shorties and seeing no losses at the track ( less than .01).

Because they provide more top end hp better overall hp and better overall tq than the shorties do.

True, but I don' think the OP is looking for all that.

I tow quite a bit and I don't need high RPM power as much as low end. I've read too many posts from people that have installed long tubes complaining they've lost low end. Right now, I can't afford to buy into what makes a long tube system shine (cam, bv heads, etc). Plus, at least on an '03, the Y-pipe is actually pretty decent even if it is only 2.5" from the collectors.

Thanks for the pics Nick! Your Image0091 is perfect... I need to take a better pic with more light to match up... but I'm not seeing anything different between the 2WD or 4WD or even that yours is a 2005 and mine is a 2003.

George had me research part numbers for the 2wd/4wd motor mounts and it is a different set of numbers. Could this be the difference? (I'm really hoping someone tells me they mounted Edelbrock #65792 on their 5.7 4wd and there were no issues! (Edelbrock #65692 being the correct headers for 4wd))

Yeah, the motor mounts might be a different shape to accommodate the front differential... my camera's flash was blocked by something, so that area isn't visible in my pic... but it doesn't look like a lot of room even on the 2wd. I'll see if I can get a better pic of that area.

The top of the front axle attaches to the motor mount on the driver's side. To me, it looks like there is more room between the manifold on the 4wd than there is on the 2wd. Here are a few more pics. Also included one of the passenger side... best I could get with my camera fone.

If Edelbrock still has the 2wd headers available in a couple months when the weather warms up, I'm going to try them. Then if they don't fit, it'll be warm enough to ride my bike to work while I wait for the BBKs to get here and I don't have to put it back together, haha. I figure if I wrap the Edelbrocks up in blue painters tape to protect them while I test fit, if they don't work, I can send them back for a refund.
