ARH and Stainless Werks are 2 of the top names right now. I know there’s 1 more that someone will mention but I can’t think of it right now. I have JBA and love mine and haven’t had any issues with mine but it seems like you can’t get a y pipe for it with cats on it. I went catless though as my city is emissions exempt so I don’t have to worry about them.

1 major thing to consider when you go to buy long tube headers is if you will eventually add a turbo or supercharger. If you are, then definitely get the 1 7/8” primary headers. If not, get the 1 3/4” primaries. The smaller primaries will also make it easier for you to install around the steering shaft, brake and gas lines, and the dipstick. You will also need to get an extension pigtail for the rear oxygen sensors as they will get pushed back farther.

Headers with no cats would be louder......if your county requires emission test get the hi-flow cats.

@Elevated 2013 made a lot of good points to consider. you will need to replace your y pipe since the long tubes will not work with the stock one, plus the stock y pipe on these trucks are super restrictive. So high flow cats or no cats.

ARH and SW are really the best options. I also recommend getting rid of the flowmaster especially if its chambered and go with a straight thru style muffler.

Things to consider
cats or no cats-Does your state have emissions testing, and how loud do you want it
Primaries size, 1-3/4" or 1-7/8"-do you plan to supercharge it down the road

On top of the cats, if your area does tailpipe emissions, then regular high flow cats may not pass. When I was deciding, I found some stories of guys that couldn't pass. They switched over to kooks green cats & passed. But they are much more spendy.

I live in Texas and in the Terrell area which is pretty much the country. If I were to get the long tube headers, not doing a supercharger. Would I need to get a y pipe with high flow cats or do some systems come with them. Thank you for all the information trying to learn a lot.

If your truck doesn’t get emissions tested you would be fine without them. I would go with 1 3/4” primary tube long headers and it will be up to you if you want to risk going non-catted y pipes or not. It’s a roll of the dice and if you don’t have emissions testing then you should be ok.

If you do long tube headers you need the y pipe. Your stock Y pipe wont bolt up to long tubes. The stock y pipe is also really restrictive so you want to get rid of that anyway. If you are not worried about emissions then getting cats or not is up to your budget, preference of loudness, and concern over possible smell with no cats.

Have you guys heard the newer Stainless works set ups? They used to have an S muffler and then the more aggressive was SW turbo or something.

Anyway now it’s Legend (milder) and Redline (wilder). They have always made great products as I’ve helped put their headers and car backs on some friends mustangs and camaros. I’m not entirely sure what they change but these new systems sound very good IMO.

I have a 2016 and emailed back and fourth with them earlier this week. They said they plan to offer the Legend series and Redline for the 4th gens but their R&D has been slowed by everything going on.

As always they have great comparison videos when I’ve included below...

I've been considering the JBA long tube headers for my 16 Ram. I believe JBA has quit carrying the bolt on y-pipe for their headers. Any other bolt on options for the JBA's?
