which header size would give the most gain?
and what about the y pipe from pacesetter, it says its for off road, will that not allow me to use them on the road?

i'm just browsing, i'm just looking for my 2nd exhaust mod.

Longtubes are going to make the most power. The reason why Pacesetter says it is an off road Y-pipe is because they dont include cats, which is techinically illegal. If you want to run cats, I can get you setup with a set of high flows or you can even drill out your factory cats to weld up to the Pacesetter Y-pipe. The pacesetter Y-pipe I have listed will only bolt up to their longtubes...it does not fit with your stock exhaust manifolds.

shortys for low end long tube for top end. i love my long tubes. they sound great.

as for the pacesetter Y pipe it is desiged to go with the LT i believe and they wield right up to the LT. leaving no cats. thats why it says off road use. i still bought the Y pipe and had my exhaust guy cut it down. worked like a charm.

Also im not sure with shorties but with long tubes you have to have the pipes on the cats widened to 3inches. make sure the exhaust shop can do that.

this is the Y pipe

if i went with headers, i would have gotten this too.

so if i didn't get the y pipe, would the headers connect to the stock y pipe?

Lontgubes will not connect to the factory Y-pipe, but shorties will. With longtubes for the 3rd gens being so cheap, it is almost a no brainer for me. Shorties make for an easier install, but arent going to give you the gains at all rpms that you will get from longtubes.

I'm thinking about how much install will be. I don't want to go over board with paying.

Installing these is actually pretty easy. If you go with the Y-pipe, you can even just clamp your existing exhaust to the back of the Pacesetter Y-pipe so that you dont have to pay a shop to weld it up. Also, the Pacesetter Y-pipe is completely clamp on...no welding required. All you need to install these yourself is a few ratcheting wrenches and some swivel extensions.

$500 is a rediculous install price unless they were going to mandrel bend the y-pipe themselves and weld everything up.

Takeing the old stuff off is the longest part. If you have a spare set of hands tossing on the longtubes is pretty quick. I was under the truck supporting the header and slipping in the bottom bolts while my bro in law was ontop doing the top bolts. I had an issue with the pacesetter Y leaking at the first elbow on the driver side and I was using the wide band clamps that mold to the exhaust, that section was welded.

Longtubes are easy to install. Took mine off myself and reinstalld the old OEM logs and it was super easy. Had a guy show me how to install them the first time.

An update on local to me install costs around central FL.

First shop, highly recommended, quoted $800 for the install of the headers alone. I asked if they were kidding.

Second shop, also highly recommended, quoted at $600 for install of the headers, cats & y-pipe.

Third shop said they wouldn't install the headers period.

WTF???

Dodge dealer said if I bought the mopar cat back exhaust they would install the headers off the books along with everything else for $600.

Damn it.

I had one tell me know, one tell me 800, and one around 500. That was at $75/hr labor and shop material. He said it could be less if it went smooth. But I'm going to do it and use the $500 for a stall.

Those prices are very high. This is an install that most guys can do themselves with an extra pair of hands.

I'm going to have a shop do it. I used to turn wrenches for a living but haven't in decades, at least since the last time I could sit on the fender with my legs down by the headers to change spark plugs. I found a shop, local, recommended by dealer (the shop does all the dealer's exhaust work). Talked to them today and for install of headers, cats, y-pipe, muffler (I have to buy something, see you soon moesperformance.com), mandrel bent to custom dual behind the rear wheels, and rolled edge double wall tips ---- get this ---- $500. All welds & work warrantied. The guy that will be doing all the work passed the knowledge test and let me bum a smoke.

I just don't have the time and patience to do anything right now. Afraid that if the littlest thing went wrong I'd give up, break something, cry like a girl.
