Headlight Spacer

Last time I had the headlights out I broke one of these guys in the process. Put it back together without one on the driver's side. I'm familiar with what they do, they're known as "gap eaters" in the manufacturing world. My question is when I buy the replacement, will they function as they should while using a ratchet or do I need to use a nut runner, as used on the assembly line, for them to function as designed?

I use these to set my high beam pattern, since the high beams are not affected by the adjuster on the back of the headlight. When I remove the bolts, I always hold on to the washer to keep it from spinning so it doesn't lose its setting.
