I have a 2012 1500 which has duals, and it has that tab as well. I have no idea what its for.

I'm guessing that also, just saw that it isn't there on mine. At least the drivers side. I think it broke off when I hit that deer.

Exactly. Its held from that when the light is installed going down the assembly line.
