Has anyone had any experience with the Sylvania Silverstar ZXE or Ultra lights. Looking at a set to replace the stock ones they just aren't cutting it. It would be nice to see where i am going. Would it be worth spending 50 buck for a high/low set of just get a nice set of HID's. thanks

Best thing I ever did for my truck is upgraded. From the single bulb headlights to dual bulb sport lights. I run sport lights and Silverstars. I barely turn on my brights anymore and I use to always drive with them on with my old lights. I bought a coversion on ebay which came with the wiring for 150 they are TYC lights and still look brand new over a year later. I did rewire the wiring with relays so that the low and high beams turn on at the sametime like a sport would.

You can see how bright the lights are.

As far as putting brighter lamps in already oxidized covers. Waste of time. I doubt your lenses are clear enough to make any difference. Look on Amazon for a hundred options. You wont get true HID in the $50 range, just "blue" crap. I paid about $140 for some non-hid ones that were still pretty cool, and still did the job.

Better off with a relay kit, Sport housings, and PIAA XTREME-WHITE bulbs.

Not with those bulbs, but I use whats called a super white bulb. Its not quite as bright as "blue" but gets the job done :)

If you're gonna do HIDS don't put them in the stock housing, do it right and get the proper housings. HID's in halogen housings is dangerous to other drivers. You have a high chance to cause an accident doing that.

I honestly believe it is the best non HID setup you can get. Can be done fairly cheap too, minus the bulbs...those are damn expensive.

before you go wasting any money on upgrading bulbs or housings you should put your headlights on relays. putting your headlights on relays can make a noticeable difference to the amount of light put out. it also saves your headlight switch and wiring from burning up.
this picture is not the greatest but think it still makes my point. one of the backup lights on 93 is on relays and it is noticeably brighter.

Thanks. I love the setup I have now. I'm running relays to get power directly from the battery and also running a relay so my lows and high beams are on when my highs are on. Its night and day difference. I had PIAA in all my trucks I have ever owned till this one. (now with two kids couldn't justify the cost) my silverstars do just as well as my PIAAs ever did. Plus the high beams are the ones that came in my old headlights so they are 5+ years old and then the low beams I bought a year ago on ebay for under 30 bucks.

I live in the country, and used my hi-beams all the time. After a few months, they began flickering. The connector at my headlight switch was burning-up. Did the relay thing, and life has been great ever since. Alot of voltage-drop running all that power all the way to the switch, then back again. Now the HL switch merely acts as a low-current switching circuit.
