Has anyone heard a howling or light whining like sound from their 6.4 hemi. It reminds me of power steering pump but after an oil change I was under the truck while running and think Ive tracked it to the oil pan. Maybe its a ghost. HA.

Sounds like the Tubro Encabulator is in failure mode. Very expensive repair!!!! Explained here (see link)

Second guess. Are you maybe hearing the oil pump if your that close to the oil pan? Or is it transmission noise?

I try to video it on cold start. At first I thought p.steering was low. I notice it more cold. It needs go to dealer to have recall for powerteain control module. I'll see if they hear it.

Since I have not looked at a 6.4, let a lone a new one, but I was under the impression all da new trucks especially Ram Hemi had electronic/electric steering, not run on a pump, just saying..........

Wahoo, wonder why electronic in a 1500, but pressure pump in a 3500? The marvel of FCA's engineering genius (sic)......

The sound has gotten slightly louder. The only thing Ive found online is the hydroboost line on some trucks will fail ( inner liber if hose seperates from outer?) Got to get it to dealer but just cant be without it for work everyday.

Appointment at dealer on the 9th to do drag link and PCM recalls. I'll have them check noise then.

Hi Jeff Courtney,
We're happy to see that you are planning on having your dealer look into this. Please feel free to keep us updated on the progress. We are also available via private message if you would like any additional assistance during this process.

A conventional power steering pump is used in the HD trucks in part for two reasons. They will stand up to much heavier loads and due to the diesel option it also powers the Hydro-Boost for the brakes.

Dropped truck off at Corwin Dodge in Springfield MO. for the 2 recall notices and to have the "whining" noise diagnosed. The did inform me about another recall for tie rod ends that I didn't know about. Also having shift points while in tow mode checked. It holds 1st to long and 2,3,4 shift to soon. We'll see what they say.

Well I guess I'm not surprised that they find that everything I thought was abnormal they say is normal. I didn't buy this truck from this dealer for much the same reason. They didn't listen or pay attention to what features, options, I specifically wanted when I was buying. And they didnt make much of an effort to specifically address the issues I asked on service. But they did the recall work. I'll find the specs for shift points in tow /haul mode and figure out if its correct or not. If Ram trucks are supposed to shift out like this then maybe I shouldn't buy Ram. It is possible they hold 1st gear till 3500 rpm and then shift 2,3,4, at 1500. But it sure bogs down and ends up downshifting so low it acts like a bucking bull.

Something does not sound right, sounds like trans control needs to be reflashed, BUT I am no mechanic.

I asked them to check it but I guarantee they drove it NOT in tow/mode and it "operated as designed". The service guy didn't even get in the truck to try and hear the whine/hum/hiss that I'm hearing. I drive it everyday and have since I bought it so I think I would know if I hear, feel, smell, see something that it wasn't doing before. And the fact I told him to check trans. in tow mode but he just wrote "customer says trans shifting odd". Nothing about in tow/mode on ticket. They didnt even top off my coolant like I asked but he didnt write that up either .
